Technically speaking, "after midnight" is already morning! I think you should just send it, anyways, it is when the person reads it that is important. And if you were working till late to get the assignment done, no harm in letting he others know your dedication either!

Actually, email systems are pretty dumb, so you could change the time on your home computer to some reasonable morning hour, like 730, send the email, and it will be timestamped with the morning hour. Try this with a friend to make sure that you get the timestamp that you want, if you are using company mail then it may get timestamped by the email server rather than your machine.

that's the beauty of email. it's not a phone call. therefore it won't disturb people in the middle of the night. if your work related email is extra important and you want people to see it first thing in the morning, then you should send it asap.
sending it in the morning when you feel is appropriate might be too late for the person you mean to send it too, and could delay your task.
of course, if it can wait, then it can wait ;)

It should not matter when you send your email. Not everyone works a typical 9-5 day...sometimes you have to compensate for a time zone difference, sometimes you are working on something that takes all night...my husband has been paged at all hours of the day and night to help with something for work..sometimes that necessitates being on the phone at some ungodly hours...once the situation has been verbally discussed, there are then times when they have to do their own part for the situation and then email each other and management of the situation...

It's important to remember that this is not a phone call. E-mails are beautiful, because it ensures that you can tell someone something when it's convenient for YOU.
As a result of this thinking, there's nothing wrong with when you send an e-mail. My aunt, who's a businesswoman, routinely sends e-mails at 3 in the morning. The time with when you send an e-mail shouldn't matter.

Depends... When you are working in the government do it after midnight so it will get to the other person before the admin gets on in the morning. If it's not the government just do it in the morning and get some sleep!
Hope you get that email sent,
john

Really, isn't everything done after midnight? If you send an email on December 31, 2006 at 1 pm, it's after midnight on December 31, 2006.

First it depends if the e-mail is being sent to someone on the east coast or in a city or state where there is a time difference.
I, myself am somewhat of a private person, and I wouldn't want someone in business to wonder what I was doing up at that hour.
I think it would behoove you to send it before 9pm.

It's an email, what does it matter when you send it? They'll check it whenever it's convenient to them.
And if it's going to your boss, if he even bothers to look at the time (and when was the last time you looked at the time on an email?), he'll just be impressed at how late you're working.

It doesn't matter. If you want to send it at midnight, do so, it will be there when they get to work the next day.
