there is more to this...you'll also have fleas in the carpet. They sell this device (ask the pet store or check online) that has a sticky surface with a lamp over it because the fleas are attracted to the light and they get stuck on the sticky paper.

So you'll also need to put some flea killer on the carpet (they sell this) to kill the eggs and fleas. Do a flea bath. Then get a fine tooth 'flea' comb and take the time to get rid of the fleas. You'll have to get them with your fingernails and crush them to death.

Continue this for a week or two until the cats are clear (shouldn't take that long though). They also make medication you can give to the cats via your vets office that will keep them flea free via 'internal' methods. This way the fleas are repelled by the cats own internal methods rather than a flea shampoo that washes off...it's the best thing.

Just remember, you'll have to do your house like I stated in addition to your cats, otherwise the fleas will look for other 'blood' to suck. Ask your vet for other tips.

Since cats are hard to bathe and can almost be impossible, whether indoors or outdoors, you can use 5% seven dust. Place dust in an old sock and rub the sock all over the cat, i know that it sounds crazy but it works wonderful. If you buy flea stuff from a store (other than a vet) it has a ingredient called "organophosphates" which can kill a cat if you are not careful. If you buy a topical treament be sure to check the label and make sure that there are no "organophosphates" in the treatment.

Completely safe and cheap about a dollar a flea comb. Comb the kits When you get fleas on the comb dip it in a bowl of very soapy water which will cause the fleas to drown.

Fleas are usually found in certain areas. One side of town may have fleas, while the other doesnt. It could be very well that they are outside. I do know that flea larvae can live in your carpet and hatch. You may need to treat your bedding, couches, chairs, every nook and cranny before your house is clean. I would not let your cats out until you have the fleas inside under control.

Fleas are dangerous. too many can kill the kittens. Put on a flea collar and then buy some of the advantage drops and put this on. Clean your home and rid it of the fleas, especially from the carpet. If you use a spray or powder in the home to kill the fleas, protect the kitty's from this. Put the kitty's in the bathroom until they are flea free and then put them back into the rest of the home when the fleas are gone in the home.

Cats do not like to be bathed. Number one, get a good flea treatment, like Advantage, kills flees and their offspring. In the meantime, use a flee comb and a have a bowl of alcohol to drop them in. The Advantage will rid you cats of flees and you will never have a problem again.

Bathing is the best first step. But be sure you bathe them fairly often and treat the place that is infested with fleas (bedding, carpet, etc, by washing in Lysol - for carpet, spray with Lysol spray). If they are outdoor cats, bring them indoors. Also, add a small amount of brewer's yeast to their food, or purchase a prepared supplement with yeast and garlic to add to their diet.

the absolute cheapest and easiest solution is to buy a bottle of tea tree oil, put a few drops in a spray bottle w/ some water and spray the cat down, then rub it in, they won't have fleas again.do this frequently(monthly) and if you spray the other surfaces(carpet, tile flooring, bedding, ect.) it will kill the fleas almost on contact, and it kills ALL insects, flees, ticks, lice, anything. Put some in your shampoo and you won't have to worry about lice ect. again. i won't garantee it will ward ticks off, but it will kill them. Tea Tree Oil is also a natural antibacterial(similar to rubbing alchohol, witch hazel, ect)

I would try Melelueca oil. The only way I know of getting it is through a Melelueca distributor. It is considered to be natures own pest repellent. Loggers use it to repel insects in the woods including tics. I use the children's shampoo for my children and they have come out of several lice cases in school perfectly clean.
