I have had both in the same household and they are both great breeds of dogs the thing is with the yorkie you will have to do alot of grooming and bathing with the yorkie . cairns are great less grooming and less bathing and they are fantastic with small children where as the yorkies are not so great with small children . I lost my cairn last year ,she passed on at age 11. very hard on me . I moved away and had to give my yorkies away to a very good home . So please take everything into consideration when you aquire either one of these breeds. good luck to you and god bless.

A Yorkie, mainly because of aesthetics, and I think they have a nicer personality than Cairns do. In my opinion, Cairns have to much terrier in them-- they've got their own agenda for everything. Yorkies can be little "terrier terrors" too, but they can also be incredibly sweet, calm lapdogs. Most of them are incredibly attached to their person. And they have a certain charm about them, between their looks (LOVE the puppy-clip) and their attitude on life, that just find incredibly appealing.
If I could (and maybe I will) get a dog, a Yorkie would be my ONLY choice.

Cairn terriers are the best! Lovely with children. Very friendly! Good outdoors! Great companion for those who love to walk!
Yorkies are great house dogs. Good lap dogs.

I would rather get a Cairn Terrier.

if you want a dog to spoil and baby, get a yorkie. if you want a dog thats heartier and can play a little rougher with or have smaller children in the household, get a cairn terrier.

depends on what you are looking for...if you want a tiny cuddly house dog...the yorky....if you want a more playful and more outside type than go with the cairn....also keep in mind the yorky will require more grooming than the Cairn....

If you are fairly mellow, not overly active, and easygoing I would go with the Yorkie. They are content just relaxing with you.
If you are high-energy and pretty active I would go with the Carin. They tend to be very ornery and they need something to do.

Those are NOT the only choices in the world,thank god.
Yourkies are TOYS,not TERRIERS,so,I'd go for the Cairn...if you twisted my arm.
At least THEY aren't nasty useless floor-mop pseudo-rats.
ENTIRELY different breeds! size,coat & color & temperaments!
