We don't know what happened before the big bang or how the universe will end but if we assume that the universe is continuously and infinitely expanding and collapsing with different configurations then what we see today is the result of inevitability not chance. Why do the religious insist that science suggests life exists through chance? is it their need to obfuscate science in order to protect their unscientific view of existence?

ID, for instance, is not science, because it fails to meet basic scientific criteria for a theory, yet it is masqueraded as science by its proponents (who are not scientists but religious zealots).

Are we destined to return to the dark ages of witch trials and burning of heretics?

why do people like "David T" and "Carol M" keep quoting the bible - the most contradictory and ridiculous best selling work of fiction ever to published? The bible isnt a science manual by the way - it's a book of made-up stories. David T your bible suggests the Earth is 8000 years old. That is a proveable false-hood. Like much of what else is in it. To answer the original question - no of course science doesnt say life started by chance, its called evolution. What seeded it - who knows - one day we will know however - and Science will be the discipline that answers the question. Not "religion"

I will answer the last part first, atheists are people just like everyone else, I mean plenty of Christains are horrible people, it's not right to generalize. As for the main question, I mean logically I realize there is no such thing as an objective morality, and that life is pointless, but that doesn't mean I go out killing people or debauchery, nor do I kill myself, although personally I see nothing wrong with that, but that is a different topic. If I don't believe in morality, why am I "moral" well, I believe in a subjective morality that doesn't really differ from religious morality all that much. I try my best to treat others the way I would want to be treated in turn, that means that I recognize what it means to be treated badly, and that I personally want to be nice to other people because I care about other people. It may not be logical, but I think having emotions is a good thing, it makes us unique and creative. As for the no purpose in life, well, there's no getting around it, it's why there are very few true atheists, I recommend you watch the movie "The Sunset Unlimited" great movie that debates the purpose of life between a spiritual man and a suicidal atheist. It sums up my view on life almost to perfection. I find pleasure in the things I do in life, and there are still things I want to learn and explore, and experience, and until that day I will continue to keep on living because I realize that even though I will probably not do anything of significant consequence with my life, it is still precious to be able to experience these things, and I should try my best to be happy with whatever time I have. It's a very rare treat to see a religious follower who can actually approach this subject with some decorum, I praise you for being truthful and reasonable. You're right, it's very depressing being an atheist, but I always prefer the truth to a comfortable lie. Not that religion is a lie (well some of it is) but from a logical point of view, it's very unlikely, and in a world where nothing can actually be certain, I base my view of "truth" as whatever is the most likely explanation to a scenario.

The universe can be traced back until 1^43rd of a second after the triggering event of the Big Bang. Humans, being logical, assume that for every action there is a reaction. WHat then; would have randomly caused the universe to begin in the first place. Not even chance is a sufficient reason for science. Besides all life comes from previous life (according to the Cell Theory). That would mean (however obscure this may sound) that life has been around forever. "Forever" is nearly an impossible concept to grasp and less convincing of the theory. In the end it comes down to 2 faiths; faith in a theory that doesn't explain the triggering event of the universe' expansion OR a faith that God created the universe but we can't explain God's nature. I, in the end, however, believe there is more evidence to indicate the existence of a higher being. Naturally, for every painting there is a painter. Likewise, for any complex creation there must be a creatore. Peace.

What is science? A logical and practical methodology to explore the nature of universe and whatever is happening in there.
What is religion? A belief and set of guidelines given to human beings to live a peaceful life. Religion also explains you about the creation of man, creation of universe, botany, zoology, history etc.
Religion and Science are never two different things as religion has already given you the guidelines and science is the further investigation to these natural happenings.
and from religions Islam is the only religion which doesn't deny other religions rather completes other religions like Christianity and only Islam has the opportunity to claim that all its scripture are still safe and same as original. So I would comment using the knowledge of Islam being the most authentic and completing other religions.
About creation of universe Islam says everything was one and then we split them asunder. This is what big bang theory says. You see what science has said yesterday (sixty years is like yesterday in the history of mankind) religion has told you 1600 years before. It also explains that life didn't start by chance. It clearly denies the theory of evolution (by the way it is just a theory without any scientific proof). As per religion all the species were created not evolved from each other. It also explains about the rotation/floatation of earth and sun in their orbits and explains how weather changes, how moon gets different shapes. Religion talks about botany explaining what different contents fruits have and what sort of benefits human body can achieve from them. Religion tells you about benefits of honey what science is telling us now. Religion explains you the dangers of alcohol and flesh of swine. Science agrees with them. Religion gives a perfect way to slaughter animals and science accepts it as the best possible way. How you should wash your hands religion tells and then science recommends the same. How should you intercourse check it from religion if you want the best thing and science does not deny it.

In short all the well established facts of science are synchronous with religion, yes a theory may differ what Islam says both established fact both agree with each other rather science confirms what Islam said 14 centuries before. But the problem is that we don't read what religion tells us I bet you will be astonished by the facts mentioned in Quran if you have a logical/scientific brain. Just read about the stages of a child in mothers’ womb that Quran mentions in it and then check what science is telling you. What was the purpose of mountains on earth do you think science and religion contradicts each other? No, provided you check it from Quran.

No of course not. Don't be silly. Religion and Science are two different ways to explain the same events, and recently they've learnt how to get along fine with each others. Besides, religious organizations no longer have their former power...

No, but science is catching up to the Bible...slowly. It finally agrees with 90% of the first sentence in the Bible, after it was written 5000 years ago. They finally admit the earth had a definite starting point.

"In the beginning, G-d created the heavens and the earth"
Genesis 1:1

"Yes, there was a beginning, created by random probablity"
Science 101

Actualy, my view of religion is confirrmed by science more and more....thank Jesus for the scientists!

Good science, and honest thinking, intellectual honesty will answer this question for you. My answer, from my studies, would be no, science does NOT suggest life exists through chance.

We don't know the answer to this, but if life has developed by chance and no creator exists, it makes life almost pointless because it has no purpose and that is the strongest argument for the existence of our God as I see it.
