Eight year old dachshund needs to lose three pounds in three months, or less.
We cant walk her because of the weather, we dont have any local dog parks and she doesnt like to play with her toys for longer than five minutes everyday.
I know, I've got a problem, any suggestions? activities? We've already cut back on her food

The weathers not a problem for me, its a problem for her. She touches the wet sidewalk and tries to run back inside, we've gotten her the booties but she finds a way to get them off [[grr]]

Is she on a low calorie food? I don't really like Science Diet, but the prescription diet called R/D (for reducing diet) that you would have to get from a vet. It works pretty good, but some dogs will not eat it. Any weight management or lite food will work, just read the guaranteed analysis of the fat content (it should be less than 10%). I would cut back on the food by one half and then add about 1/4 of a can of green beans (just the beans not the juice). The green beans add extra fiber to the diet and help keep the dog from getting hungry. I have used this on one of my dogs and it helps a lot. Also, I would just keep her on a weight management food, just feed the amount on the bag and no green beans once she has lost what she needed to loose.

If you have a mall close, you could walk her there. Most malls will allow leashed and vaccinated dogs, contrary to popular belief. You can't take her into the stores, but you can walk her around the main drag. Be sure to carry water for her to drink and paper towels, spray, and plastic bags in case of a mess.
A treadmill is also another good idea, as is swimming.
If you have a pet store, like a PetSmart, PetCo, We Luv Pets, or something similar, you could walk her there. People do it all the time.
Keep an eye on her because of her short legs.
Good Luck!!!!!
P.s. Tyke, what do you classify as a "better" way to kill a dog? That's horrible!

At 8 years old. It's no longer a puppy. Dachsunds have really short legs. Walk it in your house. Use diet dog food. Stop feeding any treats or scraps. They do make sweaters and jackets for dogs. Or is the weather a problem just for the owners.

If she keeps running back inside, pick her up, put her back down and make her run back. Keep doing that again and again. She'll stay moving as you carry her and make her run. keep the door shut so you don't have to hunt for her inside just to keep up her exercise. Also. when you cut back on her diet you can cut back a little more, not too much, but add 100% pure canned pumpkin. I do that for my dog because she has science diet food due to her bladder stones from over eating and snagging table scraps. Adding pumpkin to her diet also gives her a little more energy, not to mention its makes your dog healthier.

Many dogs have this problem, you could have your dog swimming, run around the house. Make him chase you. If he plays fetch, then play for like 10 minutes at a time everyonce in a while.

Is there a place around you can take her swimming; maybe even in your bathtub? Swimming is a great excersize that is very easy on joints; especially good for stubby legs :)

if her life is at risk... walk her. the weather has nothing to do with it. use non-fat food to chase her through the house... that works...after all its food she wants and you need her to lose weight...you both win!

It took ***8*** YEARS to to FEED IT TO DEATH,it won't lose that weight overnight!
FEED LESS! EXERCISE *MORE*!
You CAN TOO WALK it!
Leave the stupid "booties" at home .
Unless you WANT to cripple & KILL it!There are BETTER/FASTER ways to KILL a dog,ya know.
