that you want to be with them, we have been together before but it ended b/c of schedules and distance and now we live closer and I know we can make it work but he thinks that I will break his heart and does not know what my intentions are. How can I convince him that I only have good intentions and truly want to be with him?

talk about the good times you both had before and how you enjoyed it..tell him what he means to you and how you always thought about him even if you weren't close..don't rush him because he seems to have a fragile ego but it feels great to know that a person likes your company..so make him feel that..other things will follow naturally.

tell him exactly what you told us.
tell him that you really wanted to be with him in the first place, but with the busy schedule and distance, it wasn't going to work. but now that you're closer, you would love to make it work. just let him know that you really mean it. go out on a date or something.:)
