There are some people who believe it's real. I think witchcraft only exists in people's minds. But it's interesting to read about. There was a store down the street from my house where they sold witchcraft things and I would catch them having meetings. Weird people but friendly. The number one rule is that if you try to do harm on to others then the harm will come back to you two fold. The same goes for them casting spells to benefit them, thats against their wiccan religion.

Witches came out in the 1700-1800s during the Salem witch trials. What was going on was that back then single women were not allowed to own property so when a single woman was left property by her family she had to marry. If she choose not to marry then she was seen as weird. Townspeople wanted her land so they came up with the accusing women of witchcraft. In order to prove whether they were a witch or not they would burn them at the stake or dunk them til they have drowned. I had a great great aunt name Mary Bradbury who was almost burnt at the stake. She got away with her husband who was a sailor. She was not a witch she was just seen as weird, different, so she was accused and once you are accused you have to be tried.

Witchcraft can broadly be distinguished from religion in that it involves a belief that nature, or even the gods, can be influenced by the human spirit, whereas religion involves acceptance of human powerlessness before the divine,

Practices to which the witchcraft label have historically been applied are those which influence another person's body or property against his or her will, or which are believed, by the person doing the labelling, to undermine the social or religious order. Some modern commentators, especially neopagan ones, consider the malefic nature of witchcraft to be a Christian projection. Witchcraft can also be a magical art alone, not necessarily part of a religion.

Interesting question...

the entire 'whitchcraft' thing derives from attempts by male 'doctors' to discredit the midwives... at least in the common and vernacular use of the term.

Mid-wives have been around since birthing babies... and their herbal treatment of pain, and of disease, has been established over millenia.

However, the modern version is often seriously corrupted, unless you are dealing with a true Pagan or Wiccan...

Anyway - witchcraft is certainly more well founded and proven than other religions like Christianity or Islam, which are pretty much patriarchal attempts to control womens preproduction and enjoyment of sexual intimacy.

Witchcraft is based in fact... Christianity's basic beliefs (love one another) was the first hippie attempt to free men and women... and Islam was the next great attempt at subjugating women...

Only witchcraft has remained as a belief that respects women.

If you mean Witchcraft, as in, what most people think it is, then no, it's not. The turning people into frogs, hexing, cursing, wiggling noses, magical nods of the head and such. But if you mean real Witchcraft, then yes, it's every bit as real as Christianity or any other religion. Good question, it's nice to see some questions about Wicca for a change.

Yes, it's real--though not in a special-effects Hollywood way, just as others here have already clarified. And remember that the people who are saying it's "evil" or "involves demons" are the people who believe that ANYTHING not Christian is evil and involves demons. The people actually involved in witchcraft are probably the better sources, don't you think? Wicca in particular is a positive, earth-centered religion with strong ethics... and unlike certain other religions, we generally don't push ours on anyone who doesn't ask about it.

I thought that was already over and done with after the families of victims of the Salem Witch Trials were formally apologized to. Apparently not. Witches don't exist, unless you're 5 years old.

Why no longer substitute right into a magician? examine up on some properly-cherished ones: Ricky Jay, Robert Houdin, Houdini. commence with some card tricks and different transportable issues. seem on Amazon for books.

like most things meta-physical, they are as real as you want them to be. these beliefs, just like religious ideals, are neutral in aspect, and its the application of them that makes them positive or negative.

the proof of worth is in the end result. does it help, or hinder, or do nothing for the believer, or even mankind in general?

dont let people tell you what is right and wrong, we dont know enough about life and the infinite to have the experience to share.

Yes, very real....
What IS NOT real is that "witches" aren't humpbacked old ladies in a black dress and pointed hat....lol....no they don't ride on broomsticks....(would save on gas these days if they could)....They can't turn you into a frog.....they can't snap their fingers and get things to happen....lol...(it would sure be nice to clean house that way)......I could go on and on.....bored, but having fun too....

Happy New Year..
