I USED to get 35 mpg. then suddenly it went down to lower than 20. I had it looked at, was told there were no leaks, put 5 gallons in it, and got 150 miles in a single trip (appx 30 mpg) so am I being paranoid? Or is someone stealing my gas? (I know some cars have a kind of mesh thing that will keep hoses from being able to reach all the way down into the tank...is my Jetta one?)

If your fuel mileage has dropped that much you might have a different problem.... If MPI replace fuel filter, and clean fuel injection system... Techtron is a easy cleaner to use...

If its old style Mag injection it has a Fuel screen at the end of the fuel line that goes into the fuel dist. and needs to be pulled out and you need to start changing the regular fuel filter ever 15000 miles...

Also if you have MPI system your injectors can be dripping not holding pressure and causing them to not spray as needed.

That old something is breaking down in the system.. Also change your oil and filter because any dripping fuel or cleaners that don't burn off end up in your oil... With carbon...

I almost forgot your prepump in the tank might be going out or the screen in the tank might be clogged....

try getting a locking gas cap. Then you can eliminate your worry about siphoned gasoline.
