Geneis 3:4
Did Adam fall for that one?
And do church people today fall for that one -- and a few hundred other preposterous stories?

What goes on in the minds of church people? Is this maybe one big joke; and behind it all they are actually intelligent normal people?

Only weak minded people fall for it. It is the same reason why most people involved in MLM (Multi-level Marketing) are religious. They will believe anything.

Talking snake. I can't believe some people actually believe that. Face it, religion is a grown-up version of Santa Claus. Be good and you will get a present (heaven) in the end.

Please.

To many people, the story is literally true. I have no problem with them thinking that.

HOWEVER, if you keep in mind the mere possibility that it could be a metaphor? My favorite interpretation of this one is that the snake represents the ancient goddess religions--since the goddess was of the earth, the snake was one of Her symbols. So the new Patriarchal/monotheist religion cast the snake as the villain (and the woman as its patsy) specifically to discredit those goddess worshippers.

I think the most damaging result of this story has been the centuries-long subjugation of women on the excuse that "Eve tempted Adam to sin," and the number of women taught that our reproductive systems are a curse for the sins of our ancestress, as opposed to a blessing.

And what's up with the, if I don't personally see it, it doesn't exist, group? Are you that shallow that always something must pass your scrutiny before you would dare think of it as truth? Does everything have to fit in a nice little box of your creation and following your laws of the universe and not God's universe? Talking snakes do not exist now and therefore this event never happened, in your mind? God is showing us how Adam and Eve lived in a perfect world in The Garden. Still in this Garden of Eden were rules which must never be broken. Man and woman on this earth are learners and have a tendency to investigate and experiment. We were made in the image of God Almighty after all. God knew what would happen and that's why he put the temptation there. It was more a lesson to us as humans to understand our role in this life as physical beings instead of spiritual. In order to reach the level we were created for, to live out eternity, we must first prove we are worthy to God. We must accept things through faith. Things we might find hard to believe yet it came from our Creator so it must be true, that is unless you completely reject Him altogether even though He has told you of His existence and your story of the beginning. He gave us a book of instructions and provided a way for us to get through all this and be with Him in His world, but only the ones regarded as worthy. There is much more to this world than can be seen with the physical eye. If you can't realize this and rely only on what you can see, feel, taste, smell, and hear, your not going to move on to His level of spiritual existence. He gave us an easy way to be forgiven our sins, which we cannot help but do because we were created as sinners yet we have the desire not to sin. We have within us something telling us we are wrong in doing certain things such as lust, envy, pride, anger, sadness, gluttony, and avarice. These are the basic problems we all must face each day. God's Holy Spirit is within you and telling you this is worng. You might consider this whole thing a preposterous belief, but it is part of the test we have our lifetime here on this physical earth to experience and conquer in order to move on. God is real, accept it and move on.

It wasn't a snake until after God cursed it.Satan just possesed this poor ol' serpent, probably a dragon of sorts. And it wasn't an apple either. And Jonah was swallowed by a great fish that God had made, not a whale.and in Job 40 there are dinosaurs spoken of .What other man made BS are you going to get shot down for?

the "snake" is symbolic for a deceiving person and most Christians know that Adam and Eve were not the first people. the bible never said they were.

It is an anecdote that represents something, much like a fantasy story with a theme. Don't listen to temptation.

At least we're intelligent and normal enough to know how to spell the name of the Bible's first book correctly.

It's "Genesis," not "Geneis."

Exactly my thoughts when someone tries to use an outdated book to argue something. Anyone ever hear of common sense?
