According to philosophy, there can be no good without evil. I believe there is definatly evidence of both. But I do think it comes from within the person, not some devil who is making you do it.

The people who call themselves Wiccan or Pagan are not evil. Nobody is. The word 'evil' in Christianity is never used to describe people. Evil describes things which lead people away from God. In this way, by living as a Wiccan or Pagan, you are sinning in the most mortal way possible. You are directly denying God and at the same time, you are leading others from Him by your example. This does not make you evil, but your actions are evil. It may be perceived from the outside that we are worried about people being driven away from the church, and this looks like a kind of conspiracy. However this is because we believe that the Church is Jesus' body on earth. If people are driven from his body, then they are inevitably driven from Him. So no conspiracy! Just genuine concern. As for our leaders lying to us: we are well aware where the concept of easter eggs, the timing of the festivals, and a great deal of the symbols come from. They were used by the early Christians to help explain the new religion to the pagans, romans, egyptions, greeks, etc. There is no cover up. Its there for all to see. We just enjoy tradition. So as a Christian (especially a Catholic) you could be enjoying all the ritual and mysticism whilst loving God!

If there is good, there is evil. One cannot exist, in this world, without the other. We all have the capability to do things that might be construed at evil. Some more so then others...
Evil can be aroused by jealousy, selfishness as you stated, wrong teaching, envy, etc.etc.etc. It is always there, but it has to be evoked. Once evil is evoked, we must choose what we are going to do. Evil cannot make us do anything, we choose to do it or not.

That there is evil in the world there can be no doubt. It is the cause that makes people evil that is the question.Since we are both mindless animal with just a thin layer of civilization covering us and have a soul that is tempted.. any situation may cause some people to let the animal side of their nature come out in unpleasant ways. It is by listening to the quite voice of the soul that is a facet of the creator that makes most people walk the thin line.

Evil is a subjective term. Humans created the idea of good and evil so that we could attempt to live peacefully together.
An example of this is, when we see a snake attack and kill a small mouse we recoil because we are conditioned that killing is wrong, however to the snake this was just an act of survival.
I don't believe that there is an incarnation of ultimate good or evil as those are abstract ideas of man and nothing can be wholly good nor evil because each of us has our own standards of good and evil. However I do feel that there are individuals who cannot control their urges and are unable or unwilling to follow the rules that society has agree upon and therefore must be dealt with.
Evil is defined my humans alone and is a creation of humans alone therefore it does reside within ourselves by judging the actions of ourselves and others.

I don't believe in absolute evil. But yes, things/forces exist that we determine to be contrary to our expectations/goals. The judgments about what is evil changes through time though. At one time science was seen as "evil". Good/evil are determined by man's changeable biases and are not absolute laws of our universe.

The root of evil is slavery and the bending of the knee to gods who demand it.
It exists outside of us, in others. It exists within us, in our weakness.
It most definitely is not just a Christian thing. It is a spiritual force that tries to restrain us from realizing our own possibilities.
With love,
Laz

"Evil" exists, as does "Ugly".
But neither can be definate in any one scenario because Ugly and Evil are both relative things. It's in the eye of the beholder.

I believe that Evil exists all around us.....but Good exists all around us too....it's up to the individual to reach out to either one....or to let either reach out to them.....just depends whether you are giving or recieving....
