Movie theaters make very, very little money off of the ticket sales (only a few cents per ticket) so they have to make up their operating costs in refreshments.
Sucks, though...We have to pay $5.00 for popcorn so Tom Cruise can make $30million.

subliminal messaging man.... I have tested but in some movies, during certain parts for example, a large explosion will happen and the temperature in the theater will go up like 5 degrees or vice versa. They know the weak spot of many americans, expensive food that more than half of what they are eating is just chemicals and preservatives

Pays the rent. A theater pays 80% of the ticket fees to the distributor. This is very simplistic. The rates and deals get complicated.

It's the same as expensive food at the fair, the airport, etc. You aren't allowed to bring food in, so it's an isolated environment of supply and demand. You want food and they're the only ones who have it. If you really want to eat, you'll pay what you have to. So they can charge whatever they want, because they'll have business even with ridiculous prices.

What are you going to do. Buy a hot dog from someone else. It's called a monopoly. My solution. Theater Pubs. Us over 21-ers in the Northwest know all about the Theater Pub.

That is how the movie theaters make their money. They can charge that much so they can keep the place going. They have to have some way to pay for the electricity, upkeep on the building and all, so they charge outlandish prices for their food and drink, and people still pay for it so they still charge large amounts.

I was told that the theatres don't keep much of the ticket price, all the money from the ticket goes to the actors, producers, etc. so the theatre has to make their money somewhere, and they do it in the concessions.

cuz people like to eat and they figure oh well we might as well charge them more since we're so conveniently here. also the theatre makes very little off say, pirates of the carribean because most of the money goes to johnny depp, orlando bloom, and kira knightly. sorry i just really love that movie ^_^

businesses usually make their prices as high as people are willing to pay. so if people as a whole do not take a stand against paying that much for these items, they will stay as they are and/or get higher. think about it, if you could take a 20 cent item and charge 4 dollars for it, wouldn't u?

because they know people will buy it no matter how much it will cost becuase you are not allowed to bring your own stuff in. It is the same like at amusement parks, the food is so expensive because they know you will buy it
