Only way it'd be really dangerous would be if your ear drum's ruptured. In that case, anything -even water- would be bad, as it'd fill up your head and make it too heavy... Actually, no, it wouldn't get into your brain, but it could damage the inner ear. Unless you have a perforated eardrum, the olive oil might do nothing, but can't hurt. Oils in the ear don't cause bacteria growth. Water-moisture does. But a drop of oil can block sound and make you think you're going deaf.

At the retirement lodge I work in, the doctor has us put a few drops of mineral oil in each ear for 3 days then after that, he comes in & syringes their ears out with warm water. You should see the crap that comes out! Only do this for blocked wax. A regular amount of wax protects the ear.

I have 3 "wax factories" according to my children's doctor. He recommends using Peroxide. Use 2 drops in your ear let it work for a few minuets and then drain, repeat for other ear. Once you get the wax problem to clear up, maintain it by doing this once a week. Cheap, safe and effective!

Softening wax with oil for some reason doesn't seem right. Try some peroxide. It tickles a little but it works.

Who knows.

Best to see a doctor who has the proper medication to get rid of the ear wax, than to try an unknown remedy which could do nothing for your problem.

Baby oil is not as heavy as olive oil. If you are going with the oils, use a few drops of baby oil. Peroxide is better, because it unblocks better than oil.
