40 pounds in 6 months is a reachable target. I'm assuming you don't want to change your diet and that you eat like an American... so that means you will have to work out twice as hard... I've found that doing cardio early in the morning and returning to do weights later in the day at least 4 days a week is the best way to max out your body's potential. IF you want to reduce what you eat and add more veggies, you will get there much faster with less training.

If you change your eating habits (and I don't mean a fad diet) and exercise regularly (3-5 times per week) you can reach that goal. In the beginning you may lose about 1.5lbs to 2lbs per week, and then a 1lb per week after awhile. That averages to about 6-10lbs. per month if done correctly. So, it is possible to do so in 6 months. I do not recommend cutting out this food and that food. The main rule you want to stick to is moderation. Anything in moderation. Make sure you eat breakfast. It takes approximately 21 days for something to become a habit, so paying attention to what you eat and how much will be automatic after awhile. But the absolute key is a workout regimen. Adopt one. Adopt one that works for you and strive to accomplish a new goal every couple of weeks. Do a mixture of cardio, weight lifting for toning, and target exercises. If you are male, your mid section may be the last to go. If female, it will probably be your hips. Don't get discouraged. If you do from time to time, just never lose sight of that 6 month goal. I don't weigh myself because muscle mass will be gained quickly and weighs much more than fat, so in the beginning you may want to measure areas to keep track of actual inches lost. GOOD LUCK! =)

Everybody is different. To lose weight I exercise 3 times a week. (Cardio Kickboxing) I don't eat fast food and I don't drink cold drinks (soda). I lose 13 pounds in about a month in a half. I was also on diet pills (LIPO 6), only one per day. But when I went back to my old eatting habits it came right back. GOOD LUCK. Consult a fitness training.

A treadmill got me to success. But you have to make it fun somehow. Like either listening to some music that puts you in a pumped up mood. (Rocky IV type maybe) What works for me is interesting TV. The LOST Seasons made me want to run. As long as you can keep your goals in mind. I know how hard it is and I wish you the best of luck.
