itunes 'download manager' question?

Question

I understand that it allows you to pause and resume a download. But what if say your internet connection for whatever reason cuts off during a download. Would the download have to start from the beginning or would it begin from where it left off? Thanks in advance.

most of the time ive had it cut out, the next time it starts it is where it left off, occasionally though, it starts over, dont know why
