A normal cop? Highway patrol? A soldier?

That really depends upon the rules governing the local cop shops. Some State Troopers will carry anything from a .357 mag wheel gun (yeah, some old guys still use those) to a 9mm pistol to a .40SW pistol. There is a group over in Montana that pack the 10mm Colts.

City cops are probably all going with the 9mm as they are light, low recoil, accurate and you can stick, I think, up to 17 rounds in some of them. Of course there's the hideouts and plain cloths folks.

The military? When I was in in the late 68-72, the handgun was the .45ACP. Heavy but would knock just about anything out of your way, for a second or two anyway. They probably are using the 9mm now also. It's a NATO round so I'm sure we had to change so we could supply free ammo to those jackass*es.
I'm pretty sure the light rifle is still the .223 with the AR's and LMG's being a 7.62 round. You can probably get a detail of the military firearms from some terrorist website.

The United States Military adopted the Baretta M 92 9mm pistol in the late 1980's. Most of the elite units still use the Colt M 1911 .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. It has been the standard by which other guns measure themselves by for almost a century. It has proven itself again and again. It has served all over the world in every condition on every continent.

Most police departments now use a mid powered semi-automatic pistol of some sort. The variety of weapons used and the individual preference of each different department make it virtually impossible to list a common firearm. Most departments have a standard that they stick to for every officer. Some departments allow officers to choose between several models within a certain parameter. Some departments will change slowly, allowing older officers to continue to carry their chosen weapons while introducing new recruits to a standard sidearm.

I would say that the criteria are, in general, between 9mm and .45 caliber. That would be 9mm, 10mm, .380 para, .38 cal., .357 magnum cal., .40 cal., .41 cal. (not used much), .44 special, .44 magnum, .45 auto, .45 long Colt, and a few chamberings in a similar vein.

There are only two reasonable choices in firearms....a revolver or a semi-automatic. Most departments are going to semi-auto. There are many different brands of quality firearms to choose from and that is up to the individual department. We do not have a national police force with a central management structure.

I hope this answers some of your questions.

Cops use to carry Smith and Wesson 38 Caliber revolvers. Many went up to the 357 magnum revolver. Then the US Army went to the 9mm Baretta due to the NATO agreement. The cops pretty much jumped on the 9 mm band wagon.

The cops got OFF the 9 mm band wagon pretty darn fast when they found out the 9 mm is not a good stopping round.

What seems to be popular today is a Glock in 40 caliber. The Glock is fairly light weight, carries a lot of rounds and is about idiot proof.

This varies, because the cops themselves are responsible for buying their weapons, they are not issued a standard type. Most officers use either the 9mm or S&W .40 cal, but in recent years many cops have complained about the lack of stopping power these rounds offer, and have begun to think about going to the .45 caliber. All in all, the .45 caliber is more effective for anything a cop is going to use it for, mainly applyling lethal force in self defense or defense of a civillian. The only hitch will be getting the officers to the range to train with the .45 , since it does recoil more and takes more practice to shoot. The military primarily uses the Beretta 92FS, a 9mm pistol. They are also considering switching back to a .45. The US special forces have aquired the Mark 23 (Mk 23) .45 pistol, but it is not practical for general issue due to its size and bulk (it is definitely an offensive pistol, not for sidearm).

That varies from police force to police force. A favored side arm in the Glock in .40 caliber. A lot of forces use varying brands of the 9mm. Some still use .357 or .38 revolvers. The Highway patrol firearms also vary from state to state.

A soldier's standard sidearm is the Beretta M9, 9mm pistol. Standard rifle is the M16A2 with the shorter M4 seeing a lot of service.

FWIW, my M9 in Iraq carried 15 in the clip.

The standard sidearm of many law enforcement agencies is the Glock Model 22, in .40 S&W caliber. This gun had taken the place of the old Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolver in .38 special caliber.

The standard military sidearm of the U.S. armef forces is the Beretta Model 92-F [aka the M-9] pistol in 9mmx19 caliber.

Why is the authorities treating this is electorate like the enemy? They do it because we enable them. To the authorities we are the enemy because we've the skill over them and through political correctness they have managed to reveal us hostile to at least one yet another. they have confident us to it truly is a left good challenge even as which couldn't be extra from the truth. it truly is an up down or libertarian authoritarian challenge and the authoritarians are prevailing. with slightly of success maximum folk of folk will awaken to this in time yet I worry they received't. i wish there are sufficient human beings that're armed and prepared to wrestle for our usa even as the time comes or we are able to all finally end up being little extra effective than slaves to the authorities that has stolen the authority of the human beings.
