I have a set-top box (us digital db-2010) that I use for terrestrial reception. I dont have cable and I dont have a dish, just a regular antenna on my roof, and I get over 30 digital channels free. And yes its 100% legal. Without the box I would only get about 13.
Also I have a channel guide that displays whats on and whats coming on, but only on the channels that decide to transmit the information.
Originally I bought the box because in Feb. of 2009 all regular TV broadcasts in the US will stop and digital will take over. Stations are required to start co-broadcasting in digital as soon as they can, so I figured why wait. But to be honest I'm not telling all my freinds to run out and get one just yet. The FCC has mandated that all tv receivers (TVs, VCRs, TIVOs....) have a digital tuner built in by fall of 2007. So if your going to purchase a VCR anyways make sure its got an ATSC tuner. Because in Feb. of 09 that NTSC tuner will be rendered useless.

It is the only way you can get digital cable, HD stations, pay-per-view, video on demand, DVR capabilities and surround sound. If you are alright with low resolution, fuzzy analog 70 stereo channels, then you can avoid the set top box.

I did my mum's easily then one among mine however the different one -no. The Freeview field replaced into too previous and had to get a clean one - all fantastic now. We purely have one situation - we are living in Wales yet now have the community information from the South West of britain ! ( up mum's and additionally somewhat some different peole)
