First, I think that it's REALLY great that you recognize that her problem is based on the problems that are really eating away at her. So many people think that eating disorders are all about body image problems, and that's really not the REAL problem. When someone has an eating disorder, they focus on their body because it's so painful to focus on what's *Really* bothering them. So, the point is that you're already well on your way to helping your friend, even if you might not know it! Good job! :)
Personally, I think that it's really important that your friend receive professional help. Eating disorders are hard to get over, even with help, so she really needs all the support she can get. Plus, an eating disorder is really dangerous and it would be very sad if she gets worse and ends up with serious physical problems resulting from the disorder.
Good luck, and feel free to e-mail me through the site if you have any other questions

People with eating disorders focus on there body image instead of there problems it is easier. Or for some food is the only thing they can control it is a type of rebelling. When people binge the body releases a bunch of chemicals that make them feel better and then they feel bad that they did it and purge in some way.
Your friend needs to know that you are there for her no matter what she most likely feels alone. There are support groups in most communities make sure that they have a doc running them or at least take her to over eaters A . People that are Bulimic go there as well. The only difference is that they do not purge. They can really help. And you will be able to go. There phone number should be in the white pages phone ahead to see where the meetings are.
Give her the number and there are treatment facilities that can really help.
But the hardest thing is that you may not be able to help her until she wants help. Just tell her that you are there when she needs you.

Well, my Mom happens to be a child psychiatrist specializing in Eating Disorders in Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc, WI. She's excellent! She mainly works with the anorexic and bulimic. So, I think this is the best choice if you take her there. Umm.... just let her know that you care about her and that's why you want to help her. So... Just... Good Luck!

well, hate to tell you, but your friend's bulimia is somehow related to her body image, even if you don't think so.
There are many ways to solve this problem. There is no one way, but rather a combination of the two.
one is through therapy. whether it is cognitive, or behavioral therapy, any will be good depending on your friend's response to the treatment and her personality.
the second is getting her on an SSRI (selective seratonin reuptake inhibitors). to make a long story short, this will help her brain keep seratonin working longer which would make her mood better and increase her mental wellbeing.
good luck.

Just come out and tell her that you know, tell her that you are not mad at her for doing what she does, just that you would like her to feel comfortable enough to talk to you about her problems. When you find out more info on everything, then you can suggest her seeing her counsellor at school, and you can even suggest that you would go with her if it makes her feel more comfortable with you there. Tell her it is important that she talk to someone.

The best way to help her is to encourage her to get professional help for her problems. Tell her you care about her and want her to be around for a long time.

The only thing you can do is to be there for her. She needs professional help, from a psychiatrist and a nutritionist.
