I often wonder that myself. I was raised catholic, but I have read several books on Eastern religions. I find it very enlightening.

I think some of them enjoy the argument, and the belief that they are special or "right," a little too much to compromise it by giving credence to other beliefs. Thank goodness Jesus, who had more reason than anyone to believe he was right, was smart enough to argue with decent examples and analogies--and to understand where the "unbelievers" were coming from as well. Too bad so many people study his words but not his communication style.

Religions are very competitive and they pass this on to the believers. They all claim to be the only true religion and all the rest are false. What they are saying is "Don't put your money in their collection basket, put it in ours". All religions hide this within their beliefs. "Believe us only and don't even look at them"

Because "some people" (you know who you are) have a book that tells them they have the "one true way" and everyone else is evil.

And if it is in their book it must be true, because their book says that their book is a true book right there in their book.

Because they have a tenet in their faith saying that there faith is the only right one.
