No other religion in history would have depicted their gods in this way. They were strong! Respected! They never had a depiction of osiris all chopped up into little bitty bits as he was before his resurrection, that would have been unthinkable and his followers would have viewed it as an atrocity--blasphemy! Do you really think that Jesus God appreciates this depiction(especially since graven images are a big no no)?

It is absurd. I've always thought it was strange, but so is the whole mythology of Christianity. There is so much hypocrisy within it as well as contradictions. The church created an image of a victim because it wants the religious followers to identify with a victim as their role model. Glorifying martyrs is a big part of the church. Suffering should not be seen as a thing to be proud of in my opinion. I know that all religions are false, but the gods who have stronger qualities than Jesus and Jehovah are far more appealing to my imagination.

Well, Jehovah God, I would think, certainly does not appreciate seeing his Son, Jesus, depicted in such a way. You are right about it being disrespectful. Good point about the graven images also!

Well, this is an interesting question and something I never thought of before. As Christians, when we see the image of Jesus on the cross, it reminds us of all of the suffering he did for us. He bore all the sins of the past, present and future from every person that ever existed as it was turned into physical pain. Now that is something my mind can't even comprehend.

Well Buddha is not a god, but he is depicted as skinny sometimes, to show how he was on the verge of dying from too much fasting.

Jesus is shown this way to show the sacrifice he made for us. I don't think it's disrespectful.

Jesus was never helpless. He bore the weight of the world. He could have flung off his burden at any moment. No he was never disrespectful. He chose to bare his burden to save the world and rise again after three days. So that who ever believed in him would never die. Amen xx

Up until the crusades it actually was considered disrespectful to the Christians. But sometime through the course of events the crucifix became a symbol of pride instead of shame.

The "gods" of other religions are figments of their imaginations, and can be designed any way they wish. Jesus is real, and the cross is reality. It is also the moment of our salvation, the greatest moment in the history of the human race, the most important moment for every human being to keep firmly in mind every hour of every day.

You are right.

Some would say that it’s to remind us of his death, but that is only part of what he did. He took our sins in Gethsemane and he was resurrected. Why stay on his death when his life was more valuable. Plus if he really resurrected, then he isn’t dead any more anyway. I hate to say it, but the cross has turned into an idol that people pray to, and the Bible warns us not to do that.

No. It's a reminder to all that he paid the ultimate price for his followers, by entering into martyrdom in the most gruesome, painful way possible.
