A convicted felon cannot own, purchase, possess or carry ANY firearm. That is also a felony punishable by a prison term and if on parole, grounds for parole revocation and returned to jail for completion of sentence. Then upon conviction of the firearms charge can have more time slapped on top of that....

CAN they? Sure.

Legally, can they? Absolutely not. It is a violation of federal law for any felon to be in posession of a firearm.

By the way, for the person above regarding voting rights: there are now only 3 states (I live in one) that don't automatically restore voting rights to felons after a prescribed period of time.

By federal law a convicted felon can NEVER carry a gun of any kind, ever, in any state in the union. No waivers, no exceptions, and in most states they can't even get a hunting license to hunt with a crossbow.

If you can get a permit to carry the handgun legally, then you can carry the gun. It is diffucult to get a permit once you have a felony on your record, but I'm sure there are "exceptions". I'd contact the parole board for the facts.

I'm sure quite a few do.

Did you mean to ask if they should or whether or not its legal?

Better for everyone if the felon tried to carry a diploma and a job instead.

No. The felon isn't in possession of the firearm nor has administration over it. G Gordon Liddy is able to maintain his firearm sequence by employing asserting his spouse now owns them. this is a bogus regulation any way. It violates the 2d substitute. "Shall no longer be infringed" is exceptionally sparkling American English.
