Do not pop the abcess. If it needed to be lanced they would have lanced it for you at the ER. Leave it alone and follow the doctors instructions.

Some absecsses do not burst because they do not form a "head". It depends on a number of factors, particularly the type of bacteria. If it hasn't come to a head, then don't try and burst it - I'm sure ER would've done it if they thought it appropriate.
The important 3 steps in dentistry are known as the 3 Ds: Diagnosis, Dental treatment or Drainage, Drugs - in that order.
Your priority is to attend to the cause of the abscess ASAP because the antibiotics may only have a limited effect.
There is no reason why the dentist can't give you some form of treatment to help resolve the swelling. Sometimes it might be drainage thru the tooth (1st stage RCT) or extraction. He does NOT need to wait and SHOULD NOT wait for the swelling to subside.

No. Just no. It would not be a smart move.
I'm guessing the meds you're taking are antibiotics. Take those for the length of time you have been told (probably 10 days), even if the swelling is completely gone before then.
The ER doc probably already advised you to see a dentist, which you should do. But the dentist won't perform a root canal while you have an infection, so call first and explain the situation, including when your meds will be finished.

I've had one before & half my face got swollen. I was still in high school so it sucked. Rinse with warm saltwater & get the antibiotics. It will pop on it's own and be prepared for the most disgusting taste in the world. As soon as U start taking the meds the swelling should go down.

Absolutely not !! Toxins in your mouth and in the sore can very easily enter your blood stream and cause heart problems. Do no rick this. Go to a Dentist and get it fixed. You'll probably get 3-4 days of anti-biotics to take before anything is actually done. I'm not kidding here. Go to the Dentist.

It would relieve some pressure and probably some pain. I hope one of the meds is antibiotics. Alternate warm and cold compresses on the area~ the cold is for the swelling, the warm would help the area drain. Good luck. I know how painful this can be.

If you pop it, it will just come right back. You will more than likely have to have a root canal. I had an abcess years ago, and that was the only thing that helped it.
Good Luck
