I am going camping to a remote area where there are no toilets or showers and was wondering if it was worth the money for a porta potti or just to take a dump in a small hole behind a tree. I would still have to empty the potti into a hole anyway. Is it really worth all of the money

We go camping in an area every year that has no toilets. The guys in our group constructed a bathroom out of some old carpet hung between a few trees. They cut a hole in a piece of wood and put it across two tree stumps. The make shift toilet is still standing after five years. Another group of campers bring a regular porta potty (like they have at out door events) on a trailer. I've had to tough it out a few times and it's not that bad. You can always take anti-diarrhea medicine and not poop all weekend.

no. save the money for something more fun
go get a 5 gallon bucket and cut the bottom out. On the top you can wrap foam or somehow fasten on a toilet seat if you wish. Just dig a small hole, put the bucket over it, and when you're done fill the hole.

make sure you go far away from any camps, because even after you bury it it tends to smell pretty bad.

if you want privacy tie a rope from one tree to another and hang a tarp or blanket or something over it.

have fun camping

If you have issues with squating and pooing then instead of buying a porta potty you could go the baby section of walmart and buy a kids potty training potty. It has a seat you can sit on and you will still have to bury the poo but at least you can sit and do your business and it's cheap. Also I recommend you buy some baby wipes as well and not just toilet paper.

depends on how much disposable income you have. It the area is remote, no. Rough it out. Just did you a nice big hole. You could do what I did one year. We used a nylon bag strung up between the trees to have a bit of privacy. Have fun
