my supervisor just cross-trained into that job. You'll travel a LOT! basically, you'll be loading and unloading cargo (actually luggage, and military members)
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airforceenlistedjobs/a/afjob1a2x1.htm
honestly, it really doesn't sound all that great. but, if you want to travel a lot, then it'll be great for that. The job itself doesn't sound difficult or rewarding. (this is coming from his description of the job and what I've read.) But he was really excited to change career firelds.
He was a 2W1x1 (weapons troop) along with me. I can tell you about that job, I like it a lot! You can also look it up. (2w1x1 aircraft armament systems) in a nutshell- we load bombs, missiles, ammo and anything weapons related. (anything dangerous and that has a type of explosive) We do mechanical and electrical maintenance on jets (mine is the F-15E but you can change between any jet with weapons) we deal with the weapons equipment, electrical and mechanical(bomb racks, gun system, computer programmer, wiring, schematic and wiring diagrams, etc)
I don't mean to, in any way, discourage you from this job! He was very excited. He's single and so the traveling probably seemed like a great opportunity. I will tell you that they need load masters to load jets in deployed locations.......
Good luck to you!

you sure will travel a lot from what i hear. i don't believe it's a very exciting job. pretty much just put stuff on the plane. i don't know if they get a lot of chances to go to school though because of their crazy schedule though. but you do get paid extra because you'll be gone all the time. i wouldn't recommend it for someone in a relationship or with children though because you'd be away from your family a lot.

As far as traveling goes, the navy travels the most and offers many jobs in the aviation field, look into both branches and compare.

the military sends you where they want you to go when they want you there. The only special help you will have traveling is that you can travel free on a space available basis on you time off and on military transports.

The military is for war. When you're not fighting one war, you're getting ready for the next one. If you want to work with aircraft, there are plenty of civilian aircraft to work with.
So it depends on whether a military career appeals to you, not just aircraft.

I am in the airforce, i fly the jet planes, which is tons of fun but if you join just to load planes you will not get to travel a lot of the time and you will just be loading planes up which is not fun. If you are going to join the airforce become a pilot
