I'm with you. I think it is very bad for someone to blow their nose at the dinner table or anywhere that people maybe eating. I use to have a boyfriend that use to do that and pick his nose when people where eating. A very big turn off. Needless to say we are no longer together.

Not only is it rude it is disgusting.

The asker did not mention phlegm or oozing or your nose dripping, running, etc...

The question was:
Do you think it's right for a person to BLOW their nose at the dinner table?

Big difference. If your nose is running get a tissue to discreetly take care of it and excuse yourself to the bathroom. If you have oozing phlegm then you need to see a doctor to get some antibiotics or something.

um wow, I don't think it's that rude? As long as you don't interrupt a conversation without warning and not make loud obnoxious noises, I don't really see the problem. You gotta do what you gotta do, and dripping snot might come down faster than you can leave the table. Are you going to leave the table just to sneeze? To cough? It's not a big deal.

That is foul. It makes me sick when people do that, as well. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it. But you are correct-etiquette dictates that a person should excuse themself and go to the restroom to blow their nose. A sudden sneeze or cough should be done into a napkin.

Well people do things and when you go out to restaurants you really can't controll what they do or if they washed their hands or sneezed on your food or spit in your drink just for the heck of it....SO eat at home and when you have people over to break bread with you Make an announcement that if anyone should need to blow their nose to PLEASE step away from the table.

I think it is totally unacceptable. Thats bad table manners to the extreme. I glare at people who do it, it ruins dinner.

I don't really like it, and am by far not the master of etiquette.

If possible I think you should try to excuse yourself and take care of that business in the restroom.

If you have to and can't get away from the table and go to the restroom or out side . then by all means do what you have to do and apologize afterwords.
