This might sound a bit wierd, but it's well worth a try :)
My best friend was ridiculously phobic about spiders. She'd literally run from the house screaming her head off, or, if the spider was between her and the door, she'd just scream until someone came and removed it. Not good if she was home alone.
Anyway, I'm not sure if you've heard of the Bach Flower Remedies (I get mine from the local health food store), but I have two suggestions for you. First of all, the one called Mimulus is for people who have a specific fear. Take that for a couple of weeks, as directed on the bottle.
As extreme as my friend's fear of spiders was, after just three days of taking Mimulus, she got over it. She was telling me only yesterday how she had gone over to a spider last week to look at it very closely, something she never could have done before.
The other remedy is Rescue Remedy, which is a combination of 5 flower remedies, and is useful in many situations - accident, sudden illness, panic attacks, general anxiety, nervous about giving a speech, flying on a plane, etc etc.
As with many natural remedies, a lot of people will tell you these things are rubbish, but I urge you to give them a try. When the right remedy is used for the right problem, they can be spectactularly effective. Trust me, I speak from awesome personal experience.
Good luck :)

I have the same problem, except I just want to overcome the fear. I thought about it and the best way I found is to immerse myself into the fear. I drew up a list of all types of heights; like standing on a chair, looking over a balcony from the second floor, going up escalators etc. Then I would try the easiest things first and make my way down the list, but only after I had mastered the previous level first. It takes time, but the more practice the better. I dont believe in hypnosis. I did go see a specialist but she thought I should just 'talk' about it instead of immersing myself into it. Hope this helps.

The same way most people do , and i did. I still have some fear of heights, but i think it is healthy to have some fear of heights, but that is me. I had to face my fear, i would climb down mountains, that had paths with a sheer drop of more then a mountain high, and only hugging a rock wall with about 4 inches you could walk on. I will say it was not one of the funest ways of getting over the fear of heights, but i did not want to go anywhere high. I did not want to drive over the mountains, over the passes cause of the drop offs, and i did not like the free ways, cause they were too high. I did not want to be in a hotel cause they may put me in a room with a high view, but i did these things anyway. And now i love to fly in airplanes and take pictures out of the windows. So it is something no one can actually force you to do, cause that will just make things worse for you, you have to be ready, and willing to take the chances, and face the things you are afraid of, cause only you can do that, no one can do it for you, even though they try to sometimes, they think they are helping, but it don't help . And i am sure you already know that, so when you are ready , you will go out on that limb yourself, and face that fear. Good luck and god bless.

With most fears, you have to desensitize it to you. First you might look at pictures of high places, then later videos taken from high areas, and then you might go as high as you can without being afraid, and then go a little higher, and then a little higher than that, and so on. Now, just so we are clear, each step can take days, weeks, or even months. The total process might take years, but good luck.

My best friend from high school has the same problem.
It is so mysterious to us who don't have this problem.
But it's always the same with all fears/phobias. You have to face them...and you can do it slowly.
Start by going out on a balcony on the 2nd floor and kind of work up from there. It'll go away.
I used to have a fear of crowded rooms and got over it.

no one can overcome their fear of heights it comes natural with all humans but think of things you can achieve when you aren't that scared and it will probably boost your confidence.
