This isn't something that you should try to do yourself if you've never done it before. If you try to do it yourself, you could end up hurting the dog and making matters worse or cause a serious infection..
Why do you think that you need to express your dog's anal glands in the first place? Most dogs do it it themselves when they're having a bowel movement, and unless the dog's anal glands are impacted, you shouldn't have to do it.
If they are impacted, please take the dog to the vet vet or a groomer and have them show you how to do it correctly and without hurting he dog or causing injury.

This may sound gross but you will need to put on a pair of gloves and put some k/y jelly on your finger. then you will need to put your finger in his/her anal hole and right near the inter edges to the right and left you can feel some sort of small grape size shape that would be the anal glands that is on both sides. you would also like to have a couple paper towels with you. They will have a little or a lot of bad odor after while you are emptying them. after they are emptied you will no longer feel any shape in those above areas. Now you will need to put pressure on them by squeezing them not too hard but enough to get the liquids out. you also may want a little help because they really do not like this at all. make sure someone is holding the head firmly so he/she won't be able to turn around and bite you or and one around you. then just wipe the bottom off with mild soap and warm water.
I did this a lot at the vet clinic that I work at. But hey I hope that this will help you out. Good luck and be careful.

it requires you to stick your finger in your dog's rectum. if you want to do this just to save $10 or so, then more power to you. but if your dog is having anal gland problems it will require more than just draining them, and a vet is knowledgeable in being able to know if there's an infection or impaction. spend the few bucks and have a dr. do it.

I wouldn't advise you to try this yourself. I take my dog to the Vet. to have it done and I can tell just by watching (from a few feet away by advice from the vet) that the dog feels pain and it REEKS!!! Also it can spurt the fluids out aways from the actual dog! Spend some $$ and go to Vet.

If you have never done it before go to the vet and have the vet do it and show you how to do it for the future.

You can mess things up pretty bad by doing it yourself without knowing how. Most grooming shops will do it for like 5 or 10 bucks.

Ask the groomer if they will do it when she is groomed. If not, take her to the vet and have it done. You don't know how and could injure her.
