One answer to my last question said that homosexuals are in their face wanting ridiculous special rights. So elaborate. What rights are they asking for that you do not have?

In Colorado, this was James Dobson's argument for Amendment 2. BTW, he in no way practices politics, as his organization is a 501(c)(3).

Amendment 2 banned local ordinances passed by the likes of Boulder and Aspen that banned housing discrimination based on sexual orientation. Dobson and his ilk argued that was a "special right" not afforded to anyone else, even though Boulder and Aspen ALSO protected the heterosexual orientation under the same language.

Ultimately, I think it's just a clever way of dodging the issue. It's kind of like saying the right of blacks not to be discriminated against is a "special right", because it isn't provided on the basis of say -- sports team preference.

BTW, Amendment 2 was overturned.

You (and thankfully most of the answerers here) do have it right: Homosexuals are asking for equal rights, not special rights. That's how logic words--if "all men are created equal" then all men (aka people), no matter of race, creed, color, or sexuality, should have equal rights to take legal life partners, to share their health benefits, to make life decisions for an incapacitated partner, to adopt children. It's horrible that if I wanted my gay sister to take my children, should something happen to me, those children might have to go into foster care with strangers instead, just because my sister is gay. It's horrible that if I choose someone to be my life partner, my homophobic mom could keep him out of my hospital room as I'm dying. Any right that heterosexuals have, homosexuals also deserve--otherwise they are being discriminated against. Period.

Marriage is between 2 people of the opposite sex, and they want to re idenifty it........why do they get to have special rights???? You just can't start rewriteing definitions and laws because they don't feel good.. OK so if you want to be a homosexual fine..............just don't think i am going to sit back and not say anything just because you want to be special......OK i think I should be able to use illegal drugs because it feels good!!!! No asking for special rights, just equal rights.

How dare gays have the right to visit with a dying partner in the hospital! Or not be fired by a bigoted boss for being gay!

Gays and lesbians want to be treated fairly. They do not want "special rights", they want equal rights.

Of course, many think that treating gays and lesbians with anything other than hate and bigotry is treating them as if they're "special."

Why do they need to be married? Marriage is to give rights to children. People marry and have children, and those children have important rights from that marriage.

Gay people should just party and be playboys. Marriage isn't going to bring them happiness. They have more money because they don't have children to support. If they want to have a house and be domestic partners, they can afford that, and don't need a marriage license to do it.

Amazing, isn't it? Those who hate will always present those marginalized by their hatred as being the victimizers. When groups who are not afforded the same rights as others engage in activity to achieve them, those who want to keep them down will see it as the group looking to get special rights. Unbelievable.
