Woke up 2 days ago and found right index finger smarting. Realised after a while that it wasn't the whole finger but the top joint and beyond. Don't remember hurting finger recently but while cleaning last weekend, something felt on right hand below the fingers but just above the wrist (almost behind where thumb joins hand). The spot hurt like hell for around 3 days. Thought it was fractured but the pain went away. A day later index finger started. Don't know if it's related since finger wasn't part of the accident. Index finger feels swollen, it straightens fine but bends with great discomfort. Press on top joint, it hurts;leave it alone, there is a dull ache. Also thought I was bitten by something in my sleep but cannot find any puncture wounds. Or that I was developing arthritis. Had arthritis in the right thumb years ago but no symptoms in a while. Sudden discomfort is strange. Want to know why. Any suggestions?.

No crack or pop feeling/sound, just pressure like a swelling.

If you have ever watched any war movies and heard someone saying if you can't feel it when you get hit you are hurt bad. But if it hurts then you are not hurt that bad. There is a lot of truth to had.
You get hurt bad you are not going to feel it right away because it will go numb. It is only after the feeling starts to return that you are going to start feeling it. Sounds like whether you realized it or not your finger got hurt too. when you had your accident. And it was hurt bad enough that it went numb so you didn't feel the pain at first. And now it is inflamed. You need to see a doctor because it might be fractured or broke.
Until you can get to a doctor you need to split it with a finger split to protect it.

When any person has severe RA Joints pain, there is definitely a problem in the joint. To find out what the actual problem is, we should consult a doctor. The joint pain cause may be because of:

1. Wearing away of the cartilage
2. Lack of synovial fluid
3. Autoimmunity, which means your body attacking itself
4. Combination of different factors

Kima, thats odd. My name is Kim and I have the same problem. What I am going to do is order an x-ray to be taken. I've heard from a couple people that it could be a "hair-line" fracture which is something small and insignificant but won't heal itself. Maybe if you have insurance you should do the same. Does your finger crack and pop or does it just feel like pressure? Mine does both, its odd. Mine is my left pointer finger on the top joint...I don't remember hurting it either. Hope yours is something that will heal itself...but I think you and I both need to get an x-ray.
