to chance_20m: I already have a 2 year old, 2 cats and a bf to take care of, plus I live in a teeny 2 bedroom apartment. Also I should have added that I only got the dog a few weeks ago because of his injury my dad had it before that but cant take care of him because of his health

to ozigirl: try reading the whole thing. Like where it says that I live in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment and already have 2 cats, a 2 year old and a bf living here. Its not like I dont "want" him. I just cant handle it all.

Well, if you only had the dog [which was your dad's] for a few weeks and he spent that much money on it, then he probably did it because he liked the dog. I don't think you have a huge responsibility here to keep the dog forever. It would be different if it was a dog you'd picked out and had for 5 years. I would just be honest and say, "Dad, my first responsibility is to my child, and I am having a hard time taking care of Fido's special medical needs, plus we don't have room for him in the apartment. I would really like for someone who has the time to care for him properly to be able to take him. He is such a great dog, and I'd hate for him to not get the care he needs here. Do you know a special family that could give him the love he deserves?"

Too freaking bad. A dog is not a toy you can just throw away. It is a living, breathing creature, and regardless of whether the vet bill was 1800 or $18 dollars you need to take care of him. If you refuse to take responsibility for your decision, then just tell your dad the truth. After he beats your *** maybe he'll put the poor thing up for sale.
----
Edit:
Boo hoo hoo. You should have considered all that before you agreed to take the thing. IMy wife's best friend did the exact same thing, and i'll tell you like I told her, if you can't say no at first, don't try to say no later.

Explain to your dad the hardships and open up a conversation.
Ask his help in solving this problem. Most likely he'll suggest or agree it needs a new home, but since he spent the money on the dog he gets a say. It needs to be a decision you come to together.
In any case, it is your moral obligation to care for the dog until a new home can be found.

OMG, yes!! I completely comprehend what you mean. I like all dogs that I come throughout, but frequently you simply wish to seem on the proprietor and ask if they misplaced their mind when they say it is a "purebred anything". Now, i've a poorly bred Doberman, however I bought her from a man that practically killed her with his lack of concentration. I knew she had come from a BYB. She is a excellent dog, however I also have a tough time no longer declaring to folks that she could be laughed out of a show ring once they inform me how gorgeous she is!! Does that make us Doggie Snobs? Lol Have a great day! EDIT Please do not learn this as "I inform folks that their puppies are terrible..." I simply understand what you imply whilst you say you need to factor out these matters. I most likely to find every other manner of telling them about the evils of BYB's.... I also inspire folks to do tons of study on their dogs if they are going to pay huge bucks for a special breed. :)

you've got to be kidding.... I am so sick of hearing ppl whinge about having an animal and then wanting to "Get rid of it" like it is garbage. You shouldn't have committed to it if you weren't sure but since you're obviously not wanting the dog, you should speak to your dad and work o ut your alternatives, the dog would be better off out of there finding a home with owners that appreciate it

Having a pet is a lifetime commitment for better or worse. At first impression I would tend to think you a very spoiled self centered individual. perhaps though you are just not up to the responisbility. A sick pet can be a huge burden. Talk to your father about how you feel. Im sure he will be mad but more than likely he will be disappointed with you.

sell the dog for more it was worth so you can pay it off with that money and you will get rid of the dog. And you might even earn extra money for yourself.
