I want to take my wife on a vacation to a secluded (or almost) tropical spot. I'm not worried about the cost, just that it doesn't have tourist flocking to it. I need a place off the beaten path but, it needs to be nice also and have at least a few comforts of home ... like running water, lol. Any suggestions?

St. Johns (US VIRGIN ISLANDS) I went there and we rented this cute white villa on the side of this cliff and it was secluded. its really beautiful too!

Problem with places off the beaten path is that if you encounter bad people or run into medical emergencies, your're sunk! I've been to many places around the world off the beaten track, including an island off the NE coast of Sri Lanka, islands off Singapore, and places in Brazil, etc........I would not recommend it. As my Dad said..."good health is PRICELESS" and I wouldn't do anything to risk it.
You still can go to some really nice tropical places, very secluded but close to civilization. Such as Hawaii, Puerto Rico....

Secluded doesn't always equal romantic. You want it nice, right? The best spots are taken up by hotels (nice ones). You just want it to yourself. I suggest going off-season. I've had gorgeous beaches all to myself in Hawaii, Cayman Islands, etc. Bali and Fiji also nice. Timing is important.
