No, God doesn't test atheists, but Christians test their patience.

God testing people was made up by religions. Don't the religious people understand that if God is as almighty and all-knowing as the faiths claim that he is, testing someone is so ridiculous, for the simple reason that he already knows the answer. Religion loves people who don't think but just believe what they tell you.

Yes, he tests them. And yes, a test of faith. They fail every time. It makes him happy to create an exclusive club (heaven) where not everybody can get in.
