I recently moved into a condo along with my 2 1/2 year old dog. She has just started scratching the door to the point that I now have to replace the molding around the door. The only time she does this is when we leave her alone at home. I know it is separation anxiety but how do we train her not to scratch again after we replace the molding?

my dog does that... but instead of training her not too... we put up something that he couldn't scratch through... like a plastic board to cover up the bottom of the doors... then we we got back... we just put them in a closet... it worked for us!

First, try putting something in front of the door. If he/she is still able to scratch it up, you may have to start crating her. Get a cage or a large crate and keep her in it. Sounds terrible, I know, but it's that or destruction.

Well,on the weekend if you stay home maybe you could try to train her.But you would have to take a long bit of time out of your schedule. If you do,it will be worth it!And it won't cost as much either, buying a new door costs a lot but training your dog...PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!

Buy a crate that is big enough for her to stand up in comfortably, turn around in and lay down in comfortable. Then put her bed in it. If you don't have a bed, then put a blanket or something that is comfortable for her to lay on.
Crate train her and check out this site on how to do it.

Good luck.

Purchase a kennel that will fit her body size and train her to stay in the kennel while you're away. It also becomes a safe place they will go at night and a great safe way to take them in your car for travel.

You should either get her a toy (nice affordable one) OR a friend. Toys usually distact and keep them busy. Friend I'm not highly suggesting because of maybe conflicts? Your choice. Best of luck!

you could get her declawed..
can they do that with dogs? im not sure .. well anyway..

something in front of the doot isnt going to stop her .. she could tear it down or jump over it, dogs are smart!

if you have a porch you could leave her outside with a retractable leash, shade, plenty of grass where she has to pee, and alot of water and food until you get home.

or maybe a crate, just to hold her until you get home from work or where ever u go, my dog tends to go through our garbage cans inthe house searching for food, and getting dog hair all over peoples beds... so we just keep her in a crate until we get home.

good luck!
