I am frustrated with how slow oil paints dry....and I do not have a quick drying medium. I am painting on a medium sized canvas. I would like to paint a yellowish sun over a turquoise heart that has already been laid down. How do I do this without producing a yellow green mess?

you need a drying medium or a very long time in between layers for the paint to dry. you can also try painting very thinly (it will dry faster)

You should always begin your painting with the objects that are furtherest away. That's how you get your depth perception.

Consequently, your sun should have been one of the first objects in your painting. As to how to dry quicker...don't gob the oils on, and to blend use a dry brush stroked lightly back and forth over the various colors of the freshly painted area.

Don't be in a rush to do any painting...this is something you've created...something you want to last for years and be proud that it came from you. It's worth your patience.

I think you had the wrong method, you should have reserved the area for the sun and not have painted it turquoise.
It's bad news what I am saying, but my personal experience showed me that you will never get the effect you want, because you made an unforgiving mistake! You will always get something greenish.
The best you can do is buy another frame, and do it again with better planning your work. And make a drawing (a study) first!

Mix colors with a little bit of Zinc White, they will become transparent, or if you want the opposite mix a little bit of Titanium white to solidified the colors. And Wait til colors dry, and finally learn about the color wheel (it is a great tool)

information approximately oil paint: somewhat is going a protracted way! they arrive in diverse opacities, some are extremely see via, and a few are not. in case you ought to cause them to greater opaque upload a splash bit white to it, yet no longer adequate to extremely substitute the colour. upload shade to white, no longer white to the colour. upload a splash bit black to a shade, no longer shade to black. Oil paint isn't water soluble. you pick paint thinner. Oil paint is forgiving, in case you're making a mistake, you could the two positioned some paint thinner on a rag and wipe it off (whilst the paint is moist) or if it has already dried, you could in simple terms paint over the errors; you could ought to color over it in white first, enable it dry, then maximum concepts-blowing with the main concepts-blowing colorations. you could skinny oil paint with the paint thinner to make it word smoother. including distinctive paint thinner on your paint would be certain areas shinny.. so do no longer use too lots, or use it the two during the portray. whilst it includes oil paint you sometimes get what you pay for.. the costlier ones are worth it. the cheap ones are frequently extremely skinny in simple terms no longer as good. so some distance as paint brushes pass sable brushes are frequently exceptionally good high quality. you do no longer choose for wimpy brushes that some human beings ought to apply for watercolors. There are additionally diverse varieties of brushes... brushes i think of artwork maximum suitable are frequently the flat ones (as against the around ones) medium width is good. that way your brush isn't too vast to slot in small places even nonetheless it is not so small which you in no way get something finished. Brushes that are angled on the tip are exceptionally sensible. investment in a good liner brush and fan brush is likewise good to do. Canvas's. you have canvas' after which you have canvas panels. i think of the panels are too tough on the brushes, so I desire the customary bouncy canvas. a much less costly decision to a canvas (on condition that they are costly) could be masonite panels. you may get a brilliant sheet of it from HomeDepot or Lowes for like 8 money, and you have got them decrease it for you into any sizes you pick for. when you have it in the sizes you pick for, in simple terms get some gesso and positioned one 2 coats sanding it somewhat if mandatory inbetween coats. wish this all facilitates.

the basic approach is to first paint in the darkest value (color) and each lighter color needs to be thinned down more because thin, wet paints will stick to the thicker paint. this really works. hope helped.
