If you can look at a picture of the tire it will make it easier to explain. The three stages are....... 1, the main treads, the large ones that look like tractor treads.........2, the little lines in between the treads, commonly called "clean out treads", they help loosen mud and debris that are stuck in the tread giving you better grip..........and 3, the side biters, the large lugs on the sides of the tires for even more grip.......These features make the TSL an extremely aggressive off road tire, however, if you will do more on-road driving than off-roading you can only expect these tires to last you 15,000 miles at the very most.........a better all around choice is the BFGoodrich Mud-terrains, but that's just my humble opinion.
