If a breeder is selling pups for less than 750, it's probably a puppy mill. Yorkies generally sell for upwards of $1,000 from an AKC breeder. Occasionally, a breeder might sell a retired stud or dam for a lower price than the pups, and females are generally more expensive. The only discount most breeders offer is a 'pet quality' price- you have to sign a contract stating you will spay/neuter the dog as soon as it is old enough, and then send the documentation of that surgery back to the breeder. If they catch you trying to breed the dog, they'll take it back. The lower price for pet quality is an assurance you won't be profiting from their bloodlines.
I agree with the others, your best bet is going to be to rescue a dog instead. Try www.petfinder.com. Just type in your zip code and the breed you're looking for, and it will show you all the available dogs in your area.

I agree completely. I am fine with people who had an accident (though easily preventable), and are selling there mixed dogs at $50-100 if they get them vet checked and their shots. That way they insure the dog is not going to a lab or for bait for dog fighting rings. I do however get sick to my stomach when I am out and see someone selling a poo this or a cocklier, and they want $500 and up for them. I like purebred dogs also. I usually go to a shelter right now, but I always have an idea of a few purebreds I would be alright with, and I wait till I find one. I like purebreds, because you can learn about the dogs, size, traits, and other things. You just have no idea what you are getting with a mutt. The designer mutt creators are not interested in anything but a quick buck. I think they breed mutts because they don't have to pay to register them or anything then. You just have to come up with a cute name, and put a large figure on it. These dogs are put down everyday all over the country, because most people make an impulse buy and find later the dog is nothing like they thought it would be, and then they dump it at the shelter out of impulse and the fact they are to lazy to work with their dog. That is just the way I feel.

you should call your local rescue for yorkies. often the will have a dog in your age range and price. these dogs come already spayed and vaccinated and have been temperment tested with basic training, plus you would be giving a homeless dog a home. be careful of cheap breeders, often they are not a good place to find a healthy pet. if you cannot see where the pup was raised and at least one parent or other littermates if there are any, don't buy that pup from them. good luck.

You can try contacting breeders through the AKC website (breeder referrel) and seeing what they have to say about the Yorkies.
http://www.akc.org/classified/search/index.cfm?edu=1
http://www.akc.org/breederinfo/breeder_search.cfm
You can also go to the Yorkshire Terrier of America Website and find a breeder through there:
http://www.ytca.org/breeder3.html#NY
One last place is to try www.petfinder.org and adopt a yorkie or go to craig's list (www.craigslist.org) and look under the pet sections.
I know on the northeast coast that Yorkies are not cheap. They range from $1200-1700 if you plan on gettin a Yorkie from a reputable breeder. Good Luck

Look into yorkie and westie rescues. Sometimes they have them cheaper than breeders. Plus sometimes will get a puppy railroad to bring them to your city. Check out petfinder.org
