My Lahsa-Poo is often hyperactive. She pulls on the leash constantly, and jumps on the dinner table when no-one is around(the table). She can't tell the difference between the commands 'sit', and 'down'. She just does a random one whenever I give her a command. She also refuses to listen when we tell her to 'leave it' when she has a dead bird in her mouth.(or something like that) Please Help!

You need to get her into basic obedience.
You may also want to seek help of a behaviorist who can help you with the jumping on the table, bird catching, etc.

I also offer email consultations at a very reasonable price, if you want to take a look at my website. I will answer all your questions and guide you on training your dog.

First of all when no one is around keep her in a crate. Start again with the crate training. Keep her in a crate when you are sleeping, not home or unavailable to watch her. Don't just let her out in the yard. Take her for long walks 2 to 3 times a day. Enroll her in Obedience School. I have a younger dog and she is in Puppy Kindergarten at Petsmart. You can also ask your vet for a referral to a Dog Behavioral Specialist but I would first start with the Obedience School. She also needs a lot more exercise.

You haven't trained your dog very well and you need to start reading some books on animal behaviour and training.

Your dog clearly does not see you as the leader and therefore doesn't listen to a word you say.

Head to the book store and get a book called Dog Listener from Jan Fennell.

After that, enrol your dog in obedience classes.

If your dog is hyper active you'll want to look at the dogs diet....don't feed supermarket food such as canned food and cheap kibble. You'll see much better results with B.A.R.F which is raw meat and mashed veggies. Type B.A.R.F into your search engine and do some research.

There is a program on T.V. Called the dog whisperer with Caesar Milan on the animal channel that can give you pointers . I believe you could use the search engine for his web site. This man is amazing. I don't think the dog is hyper but thinks she is the leader of the pack at your household and it will continue untill you learn how to take the lead and screaming and yelling at her just shows you are not in controll and she will feed on this and just be all the more unmanageable.

Get strict. When she has a bird in her mouth just say NO loudly and then give her a slight slap. Not to hurt her just to say you mean business. And maybe teach her sit by saying sit many times and pushing down her butt. Down well when she is on the table, pick her up off the table and say down many times
