Since batteries contain a chemical reaction, putting them in the refrigerator will slow down the reaction and make them last longer. However, batteries already have a shelf life of a few years, so chilling them is not really necessary, unless you don't intend on using the batteries for a long period of time.

Storing them in the freezer does help them last longer.

well freezing preserves things but at a certain level destroyes them hope that helps
