If you don't know how, then don't do it. You will hate yourself if you mess your own hair up. A cheap haircut costs what? Ten bucks. If you can't do it, don't risk it.

For one, it has to be a talent. It's not something a person can do with no experience or creativity. I used to work in a hair salon as a receptionist and would always watch the stylists with everything they'd do to a customers hair. I even did a few things for customers once and I don't have a license. I'm able to cut my own hair, add layers and keep it perfectly straight in the back, but I have the experience and creativity, even though the experience was only for a short time.

But yes, it can be done. You have to have an eye for this sort of thing. Two mirrors also help, if they're hanging up across from each other, but fairly close... try it in a hallway in your place and make sure there's good lighting. Try small things at first...bangs, layers (they're actually very easy). And only do small sections at a time. Like if you're cutting the bottom straight, do a little at a time so you don't make a drastic uneven cut.

I have been doing it for years. I use a scissors to trim the layers and use a mirror in front to see the mirror in back as I reach back to cut. I use an old safety razor to layer the hair and even it, and trim the bottom straight.

I don't recomend it.

Its hard...ocassionally I cut a couple peices of mine and then later wonder why I did it.

Its not as simple as it looks...plus everything is different looking in a mirror...its backwards...so its hard to tell what your doing.

Just think of it like this...for a hair cut youll spend about 20 bucks.. If you cut your hair and mess it up...20dollars is not much to pay to have had it not messed up.
