I did. But my milk very simply didn't come in - I didn't get engorged or anything. I tried for two weeks. Often when I was not feeding, I was pumping, trying to get my body to come around that 'miracle of supply and demand' I'd read so much about. My son had a great latch but I just wasn't making enough for him, and he was always hungry and crying.
Finally the doctor began to get worried because he kept losing weight, and that's when I said heck with this, the benefits of breastfeeding don't outweigh starving my baby. After that, it was like magic. He was happy and slept better, I got some rest, and my only regret ever was that I didn't switch over sooner. Now he's a 2 1/2 year old big healthy sweet and brilliant little boy.

I did try breastfeeding with my first child but I did not produce enough colostrum to give my baby enough nutrition so the doctor recommened I use formula so for my other two children I went straight to formula, it's funny because my mom had the opposite problem she made colstrum but not enough milk.

Yeppers. I could produce colustrum but nothing else. I don't know if I dried up early or just couldn't produce. Same with my second baby. We're waiting bout 2 or 3 years before trying for another child and I will once again try to breastfeed.

I was in the same position as Shaz and some of the others. I take daily medications that can transfer both during pregnancy and during breast feeding. I stopped meds for the first trimester and went on a lowered dose for pregnancy but I couldn't continue to be off my meds. For the health of myself, my daughter, and my husband we bottlefed. I tend to throw things at his head when I don't feel good : )

Yes. I pumped the whole time my son was in the NICU. He never figured out how to latch on because they gave him the bottle first. The colostrum is what is best for the baby, and it comes out first. The longer you breastfeed the better, but don't be too hard on yourself for quitting. Taking care of a child is hard enough.

when I had my son, I got fairly sick and was on several different medications that could have been transmitted via breastmilk. So he grew up with a bottle. When I had my daughter, I had to go back to work almost immediately, so it seemed like it would be easier to start and keep her on the bottle, although, for her, I was able to pump milk and then offset what she didn't get with formula.

I tried with both of my sons, and with the first he was little and basically lazy. I tried for 3 weeks and he just flat out refused to latch on. My second was just a maniac when it came to feeding and was too impatient to try it. He would (and still does ) get mad if its not ready to go as soon as he wants it.

Due to medications my wife takes she cannot breast feed. She was able to breastfeed her first 2 kids and she has noticed no difference between them. So far our baby is very bright, healthy, and energetic.
