He told me to install in on my new computer. I wonder if that's a good thing to do. Also, my brother just got a new computer, should I tell him to go look for or buy a copy of "service pack 2" or can we download it from anywhere?

Service pack 2 is a collection of Windows updates, security and bug fixes. If your PC is connected to the internet, Windows will automatically download and install Service Pack 2. However, if you have the cd, you can save some download time by installing it directly. Your brother can use the same cd to update his computer.

You can download service pack 2 directly from the microsoft website http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

However, if you bought your PC last year, service pack 2 is probably already on your system. How to find out - press and hol the Windows logo key on your keyboard then press the Pause/Break key at the same time. The system properties box will pop up and you will be able to see what version of Windows you are running and what service pack. If service pack 2 is already installed, don't bother installing the cd.

If you and your brother purchased your PCs after August 2004 then chances are good that the manufacturer already included service pack 2 with your system.

If you use Microsoft Windows XP, then yes, you should install it.

It is probably already installed though, as it came out a very long time ago and should have been part of your automatic updates.

You can download Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 from Microsoft.

The easiest thing to do is just to ensure that Automaic Updates are on. This way all the updates you need will automatically be downloaded and installed.

Sp2 is free from the microsoft update page. Yes you should update if you are in to updating your computer. Suppose to be new security features and the such. But has caused some problems on some people's machines. Also your brother could use the same cd you are using. It won't work if you are using an illegal copy of windows.

well if your talking about Windows XP SP2 it basicly most of the windows upgrades. becasue if you got XP with out a SP it would take forever to update. and it has some slite modifications from the normal one, thats if you know what your looking for. But i would first reformat your computer before you install it, unless it is a patch to go over what you have now. if your running normal XP or an older verson of windows.
