I don't know but I wish they wouldn't. I feel the need to go rescue half dead critters from those dang cats!

My cats are just playing with them period. I don't think they understand that they are killing them. It's just something moving and it's fun to play with. When it stops moving they don't understand why, so they keep throwing it up in the air or whatever trying to get it to move again.

My cats never eat what they've killed. They just think of it as a toy. They love anything that is moving and could play for hours if it would keep moving.

To show their prey they have superior over them. Plus its just fun for them a sort of weird entertainment for the cat. Cats are smart . I have one outside that has brought up moles and dead birds. You have to praise them for their outstanding prowlness and show them they did a good job. That's just their instinct for hunting.

My cat performs with crickets in the past she kills and eats them...it truly is the main strange scene. perhaps cats get amused by utilising fiddling with their prey, i do no longer think of they are emanations of devil; my cat is the sweetest element ever.

Actually their is No right answer to this. No one knows! The same for when killer whales throw their food around and play with it for hours maybe even days before they eat it. There is many theories but no one knows for sure.

its thrilling to them. its just a way to amuse themselves. since cats are so independant, they have to amuse themselves somehow.

good question. but maybe they do it to see if it has any sort of attack against it. or to make sure it doesn't have any ways to protect itself.
