What kind of dog would be a good companion? Anything male. Any breed, any age, any size, if your girl is a typical happy-go-lucky Golden. She will buddy up to any other dog, but for the best results, the other dog should be male...because of HIS breed, not hers.

Truly, though, Goldens, while adoring all animals (typical, well-bred Goldens, that is!), generally much prefer the company of humans over anything else. Another dog might not be what she is looking for. She might respond better if your family spent more time with her, one-on-one with the dog.

You might want to look into some fun activities you can do with her. Obedience, Agility, Flyball, Field work, etc. Or simly taking her for more walks, tossing a ball in the yard for 1/2 hour every day, taking her in the car for rides to the store, etc. Just spending more time with her, either as a hobby for you or as simple outings for her, might do the trick of curing her boredom and loneliness better than another dog.

Have you thought about getting another Golden? I would definitely think going through a golden retriever rescue would be the way to go! They carefully match you and your dog with the rescue dog. There are so many great dogs that need homes, what ever you choose good luck!

Here is a site to help you find a local rescue .

Goldens are compatible and usually love any dog that will play or run with them, as long as your dog is completely non-aggressive in all situations.
If you are a very active person, I would suggest an Australian Shepherd, as both dogs will keep one another in check and they will always be playing together!!
Also, another Golden would be a great choice.

But first and foremost, if you do not have the time or energy to commit to one dog in a wholesome manner, then two dogs may not be ideal for you if you are only getting a second to benefit your first dog.

I am not trying to be mean, just advising.

it somewhat is how my look after canines became for some week and a nil.5. She could shop on with me everywhere ideal at my heels. Now, she's extra keen to 'do her own difficulty' and he or she'll truthfully stay interior the lounge if i bypass down the corridor to my mattress room. i think of she neglected having a kinfolk. She's an exceedingly social canines and that i think of she basically needed some extra advantageous lovin' time ideal once I have been given her. i could provide Lacy it sluggish and that i think of she'll calm down after a speedy whilst. Golden's are distinctly intelligent. i think of education training would be an incredible concept too!

I she can't get the attention she needs how will two get enough attention?

Another adult around the same age- a little older or younger doesn't matter just match activity levels.
Go to a shelter or breed rescue so that they can make a perfect match to anther adult without any suprise of what a puppy's temperment will turn out to be.

I have a little mixed breed dog to hang around with my Golden. She is older than my Golden so actually I got him for her! They are like Mutt & Jeff, they are always playing.

Get a male of the approx same size with the approx same energy levels as your dog.

Breed is irrelevant....head to your local shelter.

Matching energy levels is the most important.

If you exercise your dog more you won't need to get another dog.
