unfortunately, i don't have much expertise on the subject of rottweilers, but i think that generally with european vs. american dogs, the european ones will be more of a "working" type, rather than a "show" type. this means that they may not be as beautiful and flashy, but their temperaments will be more true to the original breed's purpose. for instance, i know that american show dobermans will be lean and graceful, with much of the original suspiciousness bred out of them. this is because in america, they are mainly a show and companion dog, and as such, the breed was changed to fit that new role. in germany however, dobermans can be much heavier and blockier, with stronger personalities and less amiablitiy than american ones, but more working ability. since germany is their country of origin, as long as you know what rottweilers were first bred to do, you can see what the german versions are like.

My goodness if people dont know the answer why do they bother? The German and British rottweilers and stockier. The american rottweiler is known to be a bit more leggy and narrower looking. I much prefer the german/uk looking rottweilers to americans. They are not seperate breeds but yes there is differences. Rottweilers can take a long time to fill out so you may want to wait untill anything up to three years to see your dogs full potential. Female rottweilers do look narrower and are smaller than the males also. German and uk rotties are better lines as they are closer to the true blood lines, Americans seemed to have mixed their breedings down the lines a bit with some bad breeders.

They are the same breed just different styles. It comes from the interperatation of the breed standard as to what the breeders will strive to produce.

Just different styles.

As for temperment, that comes from responsible breeding and upbringing.

There is no such thing as a bad tempermented breed.
