Jesus was a Jew, brought up in Judaism, but set out to reform it (e.g. his attack of merchants in the Temple court; and his debating with the priests). He was crucified on the submissions of the priests, who argued he was challenging the authority of Rome (though they were really more concerned that he was challenging the authority of the priests). After his crucifiction his disciples preached his teachings, which had a different view of God from the Old Testament, and other "heresies". There was fierce argument between them whether the new belief system could be extended to non-Jews, but Peter over-rode the oppostion of Jesus's brother and took the religion to Rome. There, after early persecution, the Emporer's wife converted, and the Emporer realised that the heirarchical structure of the "new" monotheistic religion, with a single God on top, could be used to support his own authority better than the historical multiple-god beliefs of Rome. To reinforce the structure, he insisted the Christian priests in Rome denounce the Gnostic Christians (who believed individuals could intercede directly with God without the intervention of priests), and they were slaughtered. That established the Emporer as directly representing earthly power, and ultimately The Pope in charge of god and religion. And the rest is history. Nevertheless, without Jesus Christ there'd be no Christianity of all its umpteen varieties. Islam, which is also Judaic (paradoxically) but much later than Christianity, whilst recognising Jesus as a prophet, draws its inspiration more directly from the Old Testament as a kind of very rough inspiration for the Q'ran, I think. Sad, isn't it! It's all worth studying for insight into human folly, I reckon.

He is everything, and the Name Jesus is the root of the word Christianity, in the sense that Jesus and Christ go together in our faith. Jesus came in the flesh to show that our souls are worth the ultimate sacrifice which God could offer.

Jesus is the Christ. The Messiah in Hebrew. Christianity centers around His claim to be God, come to earth in the flesh. Jesus did not claim to be a prophet, or a teacher. He said emphatically that He was God. Without Jesus, there is no Christianity.

To be a Christian means you believe in Christ as your Lord and Savior. If you want to know how to live a godly and holy life you have to look no further than what Christ did and said because he was God in the flesh--meaning that God actually came down to Earth to show humanity what holiness was all about. He also offered his free gift of eternal salvation which comes only through Christ.

Without Christ Jesus, there is no Christianity. Jesus is my All in All, He is my love, life, breath, source, beginning and end... NOTHING else matters in light of the supremacy of my love for Him. I long for the day when we will be united. Trials, suffering, and momentary affliction are really nothing in light of the eternal fellowship He created us for. Actually, in a way they work together to shape our love and dependence on Him to better prepare us for Heaven. He reigns. You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart. That is how I know.

"But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive."

He is the reason FOR Christianity.
Christians believe Jesus was the Messiah- the Son of God come to save mankind. While He was on earth, He spread His teachings of kindess and love both for God and our fellow humans. His death on the cross paid for man's sins, and His ressurection shows mankind that death is not the end.
