Here are some pointers:
Air Force
- Concentrates more on knowledge than physical training
-Studying will occur frequently
-Basic training is about 5 or 6 weeks
-Great offers at educational opportunities
Coast Guard
-It is said to be the one branch with an everyday, real mission
-Walks a fine line between ocean-oriented military and a special "police", mobilizing in war-time and sea ops such as rescues and narcotic interceptions
Army
-Basic training is about 2 months
-Considered to be the largest, it's operations are mostly land-oriented, though they do a bit of everything (as do all)
Navy
-Basic training is about 2 months
-Sea oriented (duh)
-Also offers many good educational opportunities
-Navy members HAVE TO spend an extended period of time of about 6 months on either a submarine or a ship
-Great travel opportunities
Marines
-Basic training is about 3 months, and said to be tough
-Oriented towards amphibious (land and sea) operations
WARNING: I've known a couple of guys that have gone to the Marines, but they came back different people. They came back overly and unnecessarily angry and aggressive, zoned out, zombie-like. It's like they were dead inside, and always starting fights for no reason. A soldier like that is unreliable. Maybe it just goes that way with infantry (which is what they chose), but I don't know.
Good luck

Hello,
you know it is funny how some people say ,do not join the airforce! Ok, why? Out of all of the branches, the airforce is the one who you need the higest asvab for. The airforce has a rep for being the pansy branch. That is changing. I was a MP is the airforce, my husband still is. They deploy over seas, granted they are the only ones in the airforce who do, except special forces. OK, I have trained and stayed with the army..... their barracks... well suck! My cousin was in the marines, and grandfather in the navy. I pretty much asked around before I joined. The housing is better in the airforce, you arn't considered a grunt in the airforce. The family life in the airforce is better. They want to actually keep you with your family, unlike other branches. Other branches if you are married to someone in the military as well, you can be stationed a different place than the other. I know people this has happened to. In the airforce, they would make sure I was stationed with my husband( if he goes tdy or deploys, then that would be a short seperation) If you become an airforce MP you will deploy 8 months at a time. The other branches are a year or two at a time. The airforce is changing it slowly to be like the other branches. The PT in the airforce is easier than other I guess. I have done PT with the army, and it seemed pretty close though. It might be because I was a cop. I know in other fields it is different. The PT consists of in basic, flutterkicks, pushups, situps, and running. Now they carry m-16's around with then as well. Go blue. It will be the experience you want. Another thing is in the airforce, there is alot of testing, but don't sweat it.....if you are smart enough to get in.... you will be ok. In the end all of the branches really have pros and cons.
TO THE MY FRIEND THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO BE A PILOT COMMENT:
You can not be an enlisted pilot...you have to be an officer. If he wanted to be a pilot, tell him to go to officer training school. He can switch, go talk to someone about it.
ALL branches you get a list of your asvab scores and they have a list of jobs. I got to pick from a list of jobs I qualified for.

It all depends on what you want to do. I'm in the Navy and have five and a half years in and even with all of the ups and downs, over all it's been a great experience. I've traveled to many countries and now I'm a small arms instructor, which turned out to be a job I really do enjoy. Rather than bad mouthing the other branches, I would suggest talking to recruiters from all of the branches and weigh the pros and cons of each, you could also go to www.military.com or any of the military websites and check out the different fields the branches offer. If you have any friends in the military, talk to them, they know you much better than we do and can probably give you advice or opinions for the branch they're in. I hope this helps you out, good luck.

The Army is the ONLY branch that lets everyone pick their own job, not choose it for them. Plus, the Army promotes the fastest, so you will get paid more. Also, being the largest branch, the Army has larger bonuses and College Money.
Start with the Army, ask for an FSR2S, then have them print it out. After that, ask all the other services to do the same thing for you. If they can not give you, up front, the same or better, before taking the physical, then walk away.

It depends what you want to go into. Every branch specializes in different areas/jobs. Thats a big decision to make, i suggest that you research it as much as possible. go to the official websites and read up on it all you can. once you sign on there IS no quitting.
they say that the easiest branches of the military are the airforce and the navy, and the hardest is the Marines.
ooo. fun. yeah. i think the words FUN and MILITARY in the same sentance make it an oxymoron. i also think you should take into concideration the fact that (quoting my army friend) if you join the military you WILL be going to Iraq.

First decide you actually want to go into the military, then go take the ASVAB and see how you do. Make sure to study hard its really not that easy, but its not hard to do really well if your prepared. When you get your scores you will have a better idea about your options. Remember this though, the recruiter who takes you up is not your friend, atleast not until after you join, they want whats best for you as far as what they can do for you. They will add as much pressure as possible to get you to join, talking to your parents, teachers, calling you every day, if you can think of it they probably have tried it. So to wrap it up think about it and make sure you research it. The more info the better and go online and see if you can talk to someone in the field you want to go into, ask about boot camp, training after boot, and assignment locations. Good luck whatever you decide.

Best at What? First you have to define a mission, then decide who would be best at accomplishing it.
If the mission is to totally destroy an enemy factory, the USAF would be best.
If the mission is to totally destory an enemy factory after you steal some top secret devices from inside the factory, the US ARMY would be best.
If the mission was to sink an enemy submarine and make it look like an accident, the US NAVY would be the best.
If the mission was to assassinate a particular enemy general, the US MARINES would be the best.
However,
If you want to talk about bases, barracks and golf courses, the USAF would be the best.
If you want to talk about beaches, sun and surf, the US NAVY would be the best.
If you want to talk about visiting foreign lands, right now..the US ARMY is best..
If you want to talk about image in the eyes of the American public, then you can not beat the UNITED STATES MARINE CORP!!..

I agree with xo cuddly , take the asvab then go form there, the branch that you score highest go into that branch,
All the branches pay the same according to rank.
The best thing about the military is that you will meet a lot pepole and make lasting friendships.
good luck!

It depends on what you want. I 'm in the Navy so I should say the Navy is the best but it depends. The Navy offers the most chances to see alot of the world. The Airforce tends to have alot nicer housing and bases. The Army and Marines have their benefits too. Everyone in the military makes fun of the other branches but really respect them. The best bet is to talk to people in all the branches and recruiters and decide what is the most important to you.

Well then you shouldn't join the military. Everybody gets paid the same regardless of branch and if you are just in it for the money and to have fun you will probably hate it. It helps if you actually believe in the cause and care about your country, and are willing to sacrifice anything for it.
You sound like Air Force material. It is the least "military" of the 4 main branches(I dont know anything about the Coast Guard).
