Ok so at Christmas I bought my sister in law a really nice Betty Crocker cookbook because I know she likes to cook, but I think she took offense to it like she now thinks that i think she is a bad cook but I did not mean it like that at all. But now I feel bad that I hurt her feelings. What should I do?

your sister in law is being unreasonable. talk to her and tell her that you think she is a good cook and might have wanted some new ideas. when someone gives me a cookbook i love it. (infact, i wanted a cookbook for christmas and all i got was some clothes). every new cookbook has new ideas and great tasting food. you are not in the wrong at all. just try to reasure her of your good intentions.

If she liked playing the piano, and you got her a new book with different sheet music to play, would she think that you thought she was a bad piano player? No, you just got her the book because she liked playing the piano. Tell her this. And tell her you got her the cook book because you know she likes to cook. By the way, the Betty Crocker cook book is an excellent book. You made a great choice. But tell her.

I got that cookbook for Xmas last year and never thought to be offended. Just tell her she is a good/great cook and thought the cookbook would be a nice gift and apologize for hurting her feelings. If she's still hurt after that, its all her.

Tell her that you did not mean to offend her, that in fact you bought her the cookbook because you think she is a good cook and wanted to give her more opportunities to explore new dishes! Maybe joke with her and ask her to invite you over for dinner on a night when she is trying out one of the new dishes.

Tell her that the only reason you bought her the gift is because you wanted to be her taste tester because her dishes are so wonderful. Or just sit her down and say look, I didn't mean to offend you but I'm a little offended that you think I'm that kind of a person that would hurt another persons feelings intentionally.

Tell her that you heard that all good cooks love to collect cookbooks and you just wanted to add to hers. It's the truth you know. So you wouldn't be lying.

Do you really think that she is a good cook????? IF you really do then just let her know that you wanted to get her the cook book because you thought that she might enjoy some new recipes. She should understand. Just let her know why you got it.

Tell her that you know she likes to cook. You could also compliment her cooking. Don't be too hard on yourself.
