I have white spots in the back of my throat and pain below my chest bone. Im not sure what's wrong.. could it be acid reflux? The only spicy food I've eaten was over a week ago. It's also painful to swallow. What's the deal? Are there any over the counter meds to help or should i get a perscription?

The white spots are definately a sign of strep. You need to get to a physician and get penicillin. As for the pain, if it is in the menubreum (upper part of the breast bone) it could be anything from croup to bronchitis to a mild walking pneumonia. If you can't afford to go to the doctor at this time, I would get some Mucinex, find a friend with asthma so you can steal their albuterol, and just rough it with the cloriseptic. Your healing time will take a lot longer and you will save a few bucks, but that really isn't the way to go IMO. Hope you feel better.

Maximus gave a good answer and I agree untreated strep has the potential for serious heart problems later in life, but most people don't get that. Echinacea is strep specific, take it every six hours (healthfood store item), gargle salt water just as often. If it is strep you'll have a fever and maybe an upset stomach. Fast on clear liquids until you feel better, your body will use its energy to fight off the illness if it doesn't have to use energy to digest solid food. If you aren't otherwise sick and it is painful to swallow see a doctor right away. I just lost a friend to throat cancer.

I used to work in a pharmacy, and I remember that white spots on the back of the throat were one indication of strep throat. You'll need to see a doctor for a true diagnosis and a prescription. Suerte!!

Go to Dr. Over the counter meds wont help you. Strep is something that can turn into other things a lot worst if not treated. Even heart problems.
