The i on 1080i stands for interlaced, the p on 1080p stands for progressive. If you have a 1080i tv and a PS3 (which used 1080p) and you get a HDMI cord, you will notice no difference in picture quality than you would if you had a 1080p tv. The tv's have converters built in. You do not get any loss in quality. With that said, I do suggest that you go buy the HDMI cable. Their is one designed for the PS3, it is about $70. If you don't want to buy that one, any HDMI cable will work. Make sure you have an HDMI input on your tv, some HDtv's have DVI inputs. DVI inputs are still high definition, they just do not suppport audio. If you want anymore info, my email is funguy_06@yahoo.com.

Your 1080i tv will be just fine, of course 1080p would be ideal but the difference isnt too great. As for the HDMI cable, sure you will need one but dont waste your money on the high priced ones. Check out these links to help you decide. Just remember a digital signal is just numbers, the signal just needs to get from one end of the cable to the other.

Is your HDTV new series (meaning that it supports HD in 60 GHz)?
If it is, then have no fear! you can definitely boost your PS3 graphic.
Yes you can use PS2 COMPONENT cable.

But, i would highly suggest you go out to buy HDMI cable instead.
I know sony has provided one for $29 - $39.99 (I forgot the exact price; but, it shouldn't be any higher or lower than that price range).

I know some people prefer "Monster" brand.
I saw at Frys. Monster has released a component cable f0r PS3 that supports 480p to 1080p (including 1080i).

either one will be okay, i guess.

Good luck finding the cable.
And yes.. HDMI makes the difference.
Just get rid that AV cable. Blegghhh.. Once you go HD, you can never go back :p

i don't think u will get the best results using ps2 cable on ps3. HDMi cable is the way to go. However, u can get 1080p tvs away cheapier than 3 grand. At around $1600 to 1700 u can get 50" dlp samsung projection tv at circuitcity or at best buy.
