Diego Rivera wasn't Spanish, he was born in Mexico.
My guess is Pablo Picasso born in 1932, Spain; known for his stubbornness to become a painter and his mistresses (Olga Gouches, Marie-Therese Walter and Francoise Gilot, Jacqueline Roque). I think he was referring to his wife Olga Picasso. His painting displayed a pessisimist side, brought by the collapse of his marriage.

Frida Kahlo's husband's name is Diego Riviero, but I can't imagine he would say something like that. I'm not sure who said it, but sounds like something Salvadore Dali would say!
