The Bible mentions two dinosaurs by name and describes them in great detail. "Behemoth" (Job 40:15-24) and "Leviathan" (Job 41:1-34) From the description found in Job, scientists have attempted to identify these animals. They believe "Behemoth" is a Hippo and "Leviathan" is a Crocodile. But these scientists limited their choices to non-extinct species and did not consider the possibility of dinosaurs because man and dinosaur never coexisted. Oh really? Even in my own personal Bible a footnote suggests these two animals were a hippo and a crock! But there are some obvious reasons why this conclusion is wrong.

First, "Behemoth" cannot be a Hippo because of Job 40:17 "He bends his tail like a cedar". A hippo has a short tail like a pig. Behemoth, had a large tail shaped like a cedar tree (large and tapered). I believe a better choice is that Behemoth is a Brachiosaurus type of large land dwelling dinosaur. It fits the description perfect.

Second, "Leviathan" cannot be a Crocodile but is probably a Elasmosaurus type of large water-dwelling dinosaur. Here is what Job 41 says with my comments in brackets, "v9 you be laid low even at the sight of him? (This was a large animal) v10 No one is so fierce that he dares to arouse him; v25 When he raises himself up, the mighty fear; (crocs don't raise up at all but are always low) Because of the crashing they are bewildered. v26 (This animal was large! This animal made seismic thunder as it walked. You know...that slow, low, terrifying thud that Jurassic park portrayed so well.) v26 The sword that reaches him cannot avail; (crocs are quite easy to kill with a good spear) Nor the spear, the dart, or the javelin. (Croc wrestling is a sport, the croc usually looses) v31 He makes the depths boil like a pot; He makes the sea like a jar of ointment. v32 Behind him he makes a wake to shine; (crocs make little wake if any) v34 He looks on everything that is high" (again it was a tall animal with a long neck).

No. Why would they be? The Bible isn't a book of zoology. And the people of biblical times were completely unaware of the earlier existence of dinosaurs. On the few occasions when someone stumbled upon a dinosaur bone, they attributed such huge bones to an extinct race of giant humans. There is a description of the hippopotamus and the crocodile in the Bible (as mentioned in posts above), two animals the people of the time were well acquainted with, and feared greatly. Some personal interpreters of the Bible try to force these passages to become references to dinosaurs, but that of course is impossible, and simply shows the folly of attempting to intepret the Bible for yourself. Even the habits of the two animals are described, and how would anyone know that from a few isolated bones they had uncovered, even if they had any idea such bones were from giant extinct reptiles?

Not unless you count beasts of the earth being created and all that. But then again there is that pesky part about pretending the earth is only 6000 years old and then finding out that dinosaur bones are millions of years old.

So I'd say no dinosaurs weren't mentioned cause it would have embarassed everyone involved.

Hey PalmBayChuck, you should also check your facts before you parrot garbage as fact as you claim I am. First I didn't mention radio carbon dating, nor would I because it isn't effective beyond about 60,000 years. However, radio carbon isn't the only dating method there are many radioactive isotopes for different timescales, there are also stratigraphic methods. Together they can be used to find a timeframe a fossil was deposited regardless of organic compounds left.

Ive heard its a spirtual manuel no longer a technological awareness e book. The fossils have been deep and the jews on the time had no pastime whats so ever in dinosaurs. They didnt additionally be attentive to what a dinosaur replaced into on the time. same factor with alliens they didnt be attentive to they existed, they didnt have the technologies or didnt care what replaced into occurring on the time, they have been in simple terms attempting to get their land. Why doenst it incorporate thoughts of penguins or hippos, even skunks. The bible is all approximately god and jesus no longer lots the animals. i'm hoping this facilitates.

To Brian, who has a response a few answers down... you state that Dino bones are millions of years old. How did you come to that conclusion? Radio Carbon Dating only works on organic tissues, and fossilized bones are rocks. The process of fossilization is a process where calcium in bones is replaced by other minerals. It means there is no organic material remaining. You should research facts or at least know a little about them before you parrot them as truth. That's why this site is virtually useless. There is no real peer review like there is with Wikipedia.

For those who believe they were, this would mean they were on the arc which brings up the question of why Egypt, which had a written language and extensive art, not to mention dinosaur fossils, never mentioned them. Must be the work of Satan.

I believe the only creatures that fit the description of behemoth an leviathan in Job 40 and 41 would be dinosaurs.

They were called beasts of the earth...

Genesis 1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

They were also called dragons...

Isaiah 51:9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?

They were also known as serpents and leviathan..

Isaiah 27:1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.
